Hi Gang, I was wondering if anyone in the Red Deer area might have a healthy, well-stocked tank that I could run an AC110 on for a couple of weeks. My growout tank is full and I cannot afford the time to cycle my new 90-gallon the "old-fashioned" way. You know.......I supply the filter and media, you supply the bacteria. :smokey: If you can help me out, please respond via PM. One day I would certainly be willing to return the favor. Doc

Here's the scoop.......I have a 90 gallon African tank and I have to decide how to configure my filtration. I have the following filters to choose from: Eheim 2217 canister Eheim 2215 canister Aquaclear 110 HOB (x2) Which filters would you use and how would you set them up if it was your tank?

The point of this reply is what? Does it somehow contribute to the integrity of this thread?

The room looks good so far. Glad I could contribute. Just don't tell your wife where I live. -roll- I hate being the guy that sold "just one more tank".
-
Another vote for Eheim. They are simple to maintain and well worth the extra $$$.

Yeah.....you're right. Nick's way of resealing appears to be the best by far. I can't wait to get started on this monstrosity. By the way, where is the best place to find acetone?

Unfortunately, I don't have the means to post a pic at the moment. I am sure that it is plywood with an oak veneer. I know it is a waste of a nice veneer, but I am tempted to give a light sanding and paint it. Seems like a lot less hassle to get a decent finish.

The 90-gallon tank that I just purchased came with an oak stand and canopy. They are "well-used" and rather weathered. Any suggestions as to how you would re-finish? What are your thoughts? Pics welcomed.

Hi Gang, I just purchased a used 90-gallon tank for a very reasonable price. It holds water, but the silicone has been redone by an obvious hack and is an absolute mess. Is there anyone with experience re-siliconing that would be willing to help me re-do this monster. I am not looking to have it done for me, but for hands-on assistance so I can learn for future projects. I will provide all necessary supplies and I am willing to compensate you for your time. Note: I am in Red Deer. Please respond via PM. Thank you.

I would agree with your choice to go glass in this case. Acrylic does tend to be cost prohibitive on smaller tanks. Some added information for future reference: Glass Pros: Cheaper, somewhat scratch resistant, can be cleaned with ammonia based products (Windex), readily available, allow for wide selection of filters. Glass Cons: Heavier than acrylic, prone to "stress fractures", tinted - this is not so noticeable on smaller tanks but those with thicker panes look green compared to acrylic. Acrylic Pros: Much lighter, resistant to warping and/or breakage, not tinted - give more accurate representation of colors, scratches can be buffed out. Acrylic Cons: $$$, not always readily available, scratches very easily, tends to "yellow" if cleaned with ammonia based products, many tanks are designed for wet/dry and don't allow for use of HOB filters. Just my $0.02

Does anyone know if these heaters can be found anywhere nearby? Nearby = Calgary and/or Edmonton. Please let me know. Thanks.

Great job! Very nice "feature wall".

Way to go, Jonah. Enjoy.

It seems like an awfully sound suggestion. Any thoughts about excess humidity? Gonna be a cool room when you are done. Although, if you run out space for all those tanks, you could donate to a fellow mod. -roll- Good luck with the project dunl!

Does anyone else have any thoughts pertaining to Srubby's original question? Please refrain from any further "hi-jacking". Thank you.

Fish freebies? Stuff to give away, I assume? :hey: Please post in the Buy & Sell area(s). Thanx.

If you are thinking Eheim, go with the Classic 2215 or 2217. Nice, reliable filters despite the $$.

Make that 2 of us.

Great resources. Thanks for the contribution, Melody. :smokey:
