  1. Neons and cardinals are great, the only thing to watch out for is that a 10 gallon tank can go sour, water quality wise very quickly and neons and cardinals cannot tolerate poor water. May I recommend initially, white clouds, or zebra danios, they can be used to cycle your tank in small quantity and are inexpensive and pretty good looking IMO. Later you can add tetras when you have a handle on what you are doing.
  2. It looks like a pseudotropheus socolofi but with no black tinges on the fins.
  3. :welcome: to A.A. We are all ok.... just stay away from Albert.
  4. Interesting, did you use your "first Pond" for the waterfall and with all the plants in it a good filter? Is the garden hose adding fresh water or being used to bring the water back up? I have my dug in pond but have entertained thoughts of a sheltered area with an above ground pond. Good Job.
  5. Connie painted all those dots on herself to make Mr. Moustache more photogenic.
  6. Very difficult to say without picture, so it has egg spots and is purple, does it have any yellow in the fins?
  7. If you build it above ground, unless you heat it, it will freeze solid. That being said, and that you plan to house your fish over winter, 18 inches is enough, but under certain conditions. If it will be in direct sun for most of the day you will run the risk of overheating the water and providing a haven for green water algae. You can either shade the pond during the hottest part of the day or put in lots of floating plants such as water lettuce or water hyacinth to shade the water and use up nutrients. Unless you have a cheap source or lots of money, the cost of pre grown water lilies would be prohibative, and the water lily kit in the box would not grow fast enough. Let us know how it works out.
  8. I had a heater that overheated the water so that I could no longer read a temperature with the temp. strip. I was about to chop some carrots and potatoes into the tank and make 20 gallons of soup, when I saw my little guys come out of the rocks, a little sweaty but they all survived.
  9. -ham- -ham- -ham-CONNIE! CONNIE! CONNIE! -ham- -ham- -ham-
  10. This is my first attempt at planted tank with my 55. C02 From Big Bubba, lots of fish, I found adding ferts would cause hair algae so no ferts for last two months. To be honest I only know a few of the names of my plants, and as you can see I like the wild look.
  11. Moved the little guys to a 20 gal. and brought mama back to office tank. Here is a picture of some of them, must be 50 or more in the tank.
  12. The ice broke on my pond the other day, Hey, one floating casualty, but I see my koi including the gold one are ok. A little to cold to feed them yet, it hard to resist throwing food to them but I will have to wait until the water warms up some more.

  14. I just missed out on the double crown, super dedooper red, double latte, hold the mayo, with extra pickle color, and settled for the giant betta, he keeps looking at me.........
  15. Couldn't help but notice that rather large, rather phallic, looking decoration in the tank. I should get one, sit by the tank with my wife, listening to the water, looking at the decoration, drinking a lot of drinks... just me, my wife doesn't drink, and after 10 or 12 drinks, letting her have her way with me. :& :& Oh and how old is the festae? Did I mention the decoration, the peni.... Oh ya, I did :hey:
  16. The stuff I got still doesn't make up for the stuff Dave and Tammy stole, yes stole away from me, just because they bid more money for them. I have one thing though, the elusive pink brick, they managed to snag the other brick from Holly, but it still doesn't compare to the PINK. Serious though, once again our thanks to Christian for pulling off another auction, I'm happy none of my fish died on "the table," so to speak, I don't know if I will ever bring adult fish to auction again, they seem to stress out and die much easier than the juveys. A rough ride for all the fish we love so much, hopefully their new homes, are happy homes.
  17. Will do Sir, very nice looking little guys. H
  18. OK OK but you all knew what I meant. GEE -01- This is what I meant. During WWII, banzai became the warcry of sorts for Japanese soldiers, with kamikaze pilots reportedly shouting banzai as they rammed their planes into enemy ships. Though a little fish yelling that or "little tree," would speak volumes of the fish's vocal skills and or it's mind set at the time of impending death. Besides I was attacked by a 40 ouncer of RYE so I don't too much care what you think. God 3rd CAS auction in a row with a hangover. :drunk:
  19. The little fish decides that all is lost and thinks " What the Hell!" they scream out "Bonsai!" and dive right in. JK. The pike would have a lot of trouble swallowing a perch tail first because of the spiny fins, It would be like trying to swallow an open umbrella. A lot of fish have similar fins, so standard practise is to hit and stun the fish and then swallow it, unless of course it is one of the fish with a death wish.
  20. What kind of Julies? I was going to bring some transcriptus but don't want to flood the auction if you are bringing some.
  21. You know, when my cray escaped it was quite a feat. He shot water up out of the tank which shorted out the alarm system, which brought down the force field, and of course the electric fence. After that it was a simple matter for him to pick 3 padlocks, and then lift the custom made lead canopy. He then rappelled 3 and a half feet to the floor, climbed up my computer speaker cable and hacked into my computer to defeat the building motion sensors, and of course, made good his escape. :ph43r: :ph43r:
  22. Sorta, one is guy one is gal, Tammy started the post with Dave's avatar.
  23. I have 4 cory cats, USD cats, clown and yo-yo loaches, four kinds of barbs including Rosies, 6 kinds of tetras, 2 kinds of plecos, along with guppies, swordtails, and platys all together and the only one that bit anyone was an Ameca Splenden that I moved to a cichlid tank to teach it to behave. That being said if any of the above fish should suffer fin damage, the barbs will nip at the wounds.
