  1. With that amount of stock in a 33gal tank I would have nothing smaller than a fluval 305 coupled with an aquaclear 300 and do a 50% water change every 5 to 7 days. You might want to think about upgrading your tank to a much larger one. The smallest tank that I would go is a 55gal with the 2 above mentioned filters. As for now try more frequent water changes, 30 to 50% every week and feed once a day only what they can eat in 2 to 3 min. for about a week or two. Your fish will not starve to death.
  2. Believe it or not, This female is only about 1.5" TL male is about 4". I was'nt even trying to breed them at this time. I thought they were a bit small yet.
  3. No need to worry anymore, she just spit about an hour ago. Can.t get a good count but it looks like about 20 or 30 of the little buggers. Only problem now is evrytime I try to catch the female or siphon the fry she gobbles them right back up.
  4. Warning: Proceed with Caution when approaching wife! A few years back (5 or so now) I quit my job so I could stay home and be a seeing eye person for our dog (a Yorkie). Being home and having such a cushy job I ended up with all sorts of tasks I never imagined for myself! He just kept telling me it was time to do stuff on the tank and he just didn't have time. He does work 6 days a week so it is true, so now I do it all. He likes to look at it. He thinks it looks pretty good most of the time. :smokey: Juanita I have been a stay at home now for 4 months and can't wait for the go ahead to return to work. I'll be able to relax then.
  5. We have water and flood insurance on our house and it did'nt cost any extra, But they did nail me big time for the mig welder and cutting torch in the garage.
  6. Been there done that bought the T-shirt. The ones rona has in the tile area are ok for tiles, But as far as tanks go they won't even hold a 90gal tank. For a large tank 150gal or more you're better off to use the heavy duty construction grade suction cups that glass shops use for installing large windows.
  7. You can get everything in this world, for a price. GCFI Breakers are expensive, GCFI receptacles are typically installed as an economical solution. It's best installed upstream in the circuit from the 'hazardous' location. The 'gyst' of my concealed comment is in reference to the examples in the P.S. Knight series (The Green Book) which are eventually covered by drywall. There's alot of nuance involving in selection and installation of materials in electrical. Just 'cause it 'works', doesn't mean it's right. A GFCI receptical is an economical solution but not really that safe as the rest of the recepticals on that same breaker are all pigtailed together and live. If you have water damage in a GFCI receptical it trips that one only, the rest remain live and dangerous. That is why when you install a GFCI receptical you should also install a GFCI breaker that all those recepticals are conected to, that way if you have water get into one it trips the breaker as well as the receptical. GFCI breakers depending on what type of panel you have will run you anywhere from $85.00 to $130.00 for a 15 amp. Also keep your cords away from the walls and create a drip loop in the cords so no water can get into the recepticals. Dehumidifiers and small fans also help keep things dry.
  8. Any equipment rental outfit should have them.
  9. Thanks Val, I'll give her another day or so and see what happens.
  10. F-1 means the parents are wild, F-2 is second generation.
  11. Just wondering how long these gals hold the fry for, The last holding female went for 18 days and then croaked and the fry were still in her mouth, stone cold dead of course. I have another one in a seperate tank that is now 14 days and her head looks like it's ready to explode, Double chin is an understatement, more like double head. The male has popped another one today and is puting the chase on the last female of the group.
  12. I have'nt had any problems with aquagiant equipment. I use lights, filters, and powerheads, other than changing bulbs every 6 months and the odd O ring in the filters mine run like a charm. As long as you have good air circulation around the lights they should'nt overheat on you. I even have a aquagiant tank that has been up & running for over 3 years now and it has had it's share of people that had too much happy juice falling against it and grandkids climbing on it and it's still in one piece with no leaks.
  13. I have 4 of them in my cherry shrimp tank and who knows how many still in the 55. I'll just let them grow out and then have a better idea who mommy & daddy are. All I know now is they're either albino, longfin albino, or reg color longfin. Thanks for the replies, Who knows maybe i'll have something I don't want.
  14. Thanks guys, But the one that is about 1" looks like a head with fins. It's more fins than fish. Using a magnifying glass it looks like it is a longfin. However it's not all black, It looks more marbled.
  15. Val I have 2 33s with the same tickness of glass and had no problems. 1 is a hagen and 1 is an oceanic, I redid the silicone on both of them and they work fine.
  16. I have 3 pairs of BN in my 55, 1 pr is albino about 4" TL, 1 pr is longfin albino at most 2.5" TL, and 1 pr is reg. longfin at 4" TL. I caught 4 fry on the weekend that range in size from 1/4" to 1" TL while moving and bagging driftwood/plants. All of these fry are black so the only pr that I think could be the parents are the reg color longfins but i'm also thinking that they are not of reproductive size or age yet. Anyone have any ideas who the parents are, These are the only plecos in the tank.
  17. Flowerhorns are very nice fish, IF they are the only one in the tank. I had a breeding pair of flowerhorns and the male at 6 inches broke a 1/4 inch thick glass top and dragged a full grown cat into the tank when they had fry in there. Needless to say the cat never whent over to that tank again.
  18. Just keep up with the daily water changes until the bacteria can colonize in the filter.
  19. The man made lake just outside Morinville along the Hwy has lots of them of varous sizes from 1/2" up to 4". Just walk around the shoreline lift up a rock and you will find 2 to3 of them under it. My son caught over a 100 of them inside of a half hour. As far as keeping them alive I don't know what the laws are.
  20. I have lots of earth worms in my yard, Just have to fight the robins for them.
  21. I have one running 2 years now and the only problem I had with it is the O ring on the intake hose needed to be replaced.
  22. When you do tests on your water remember to shake the living s@#t out of the bottles for amonia, nitrite, and nitrate to mix them up really good, (about 1 min). You may find that you will get a different reading on your tests.
  23. When I have to catch fish in my planted tank I don't feed for 2 days, Have 2 large nets ready and drop small amounts of food in the tank. When they come for the food they get the net instead.
  24. The fry will be fine with the parents until they decide to spawn again then they will be chased away or eaten. The larger, faster and smarter ones will most likely survive if provided with enough hiding places.
  25. I use 100% acrylic latex paint, can be tinted to any color you want and if you change your mind it will peel off in one sheet. Or you can buy the same paint with a primer right in the paint and it won't peel off. You will have to scrape it off. BEHR premium plus kitchen & bath @ home depot $20.00 for a 858 ml can (will do 3 55gal tanks). Roll it on and let dry for 2 or 3 days. If you use the paint without primer in it don't let any sunlight or excess heat sources hit it or your hoses and cords will stick to it and peel the paint off when you move them.
