  1. My guess would be that your light, Co2, and fetilizer balance is out of wack. You can try lights on for 12 to 13 hours, up your Co2 to 6 bbls per sec, and dry ferts 3 times a week (EI method). It worked for me, and all I get now is a little dust algae on the glass every couple weeks.
  2. I don't run a high tech tank either. 3 watts per gal. of light, Co2, dry ferts, + good old fish crap and I can grow just about anything.
  3. I also don't use RO water in my planted tank. I have 2 spraybars in the tank, one at the substrate pointing up and one 2 inches down from the surface pointing straight accross and slightly down with my Co2 plumbed into the bottom spraybar. I use 5 inches of 80/100 sandblasting sand for substrate with 3 watts per gal of light. If you check the member plant list you will see what is growing in the tank and some additions that I have'nt put in there yet. You have recieved lots of great info from everyone, and have fun planting.
  4. On a technical note everybody only has one birthday, But a woman is like a sniper, you never know when or where they will strike. It's almost like having a grassy knoll following you around where ever you go. Do the birthday, you'll live longer and be happier.
  5. Thanks Jason, I also have a female kyoga flameback that has been holding for 11 days now. Keeping my fingers crossed as this is longer than the 3 days and swallow thing they keep doing.
  6. Just had a couple Ps. acei tanzanian blacks spit out about 40 or so fry this morning.
  7. Not mandatory, but is a very wise idea to run at least 2 that way you can alternate cleaning without desroying all your good bacteria.
  8. I agree that all the tankmates except your pleco would have to go. I have green shrimp in with galaxy rasboras, and they are both reproducing. However the galaxies like to snack on the little shrimplets when they find them.
  9. Aquaclear 2000 is the older version of the aquaclear 110/500.
  10. 4000watts, how much does something like that run $$$$ !!! But that sounds like the way to go. There is always someone home at my place...that isn't the problem. We have a generator but it is not that big...could run one tank at a time....I would have to alternate them every half hour or so. Reg. price was $699.00, but I got a good deal at $240.00.
  11. I have a 4000 watt generator with an adapter cord that can pretty much power my whole house. Holds 5 gal of gas and runs for 22 hrs under full load. The only problem is you have to be at home when the power goes out to hook up and start the generator.
  12. I have 2 females holding and I would like to know if there is any interest in these guys. If so, I will pull the females out to a holding tank for them to spit. If not, I will leave them to spit in the main tank.
  13. It looks like the 2 year wait finally paid off. My pair of albino kribs have spawned again for the second time in 4 weeks. The eggs have hatched, but the fry are'nt free swimming yet. It seems like it takes forever to get them to spawn, and once you do you can't stop them.
  14. [i just came across one for a good price and bought it] If the test kit you bought was on sale or clearance, I would really check the expiration date on it. Any time I have seen test kits on sale or clearance, they were very close to or allready expired. I also have driftwood in my african tanks for the plecos, and it does nothing in terms of lowering the ph. I would honestly get another test kit, it never hurts to have two different test kits. It's just like getting a second opinion.
  15. Judging by the video, It looks like he is using an air stone and a fogger of some sort.
  16. Nice shots .You would'nt happen to know if those 2 gigantic scarred up tractor-trailer killers are still up there. The last time I was up that way by road was May of 98 and once in 2002, but I only landed in Yellowknife for about an hour on the way to Cambridge Bay.
  17. Here's my short list of what I know I have and what I can see. 18. If you are using the screw in compact flourescent bulbs somtimes the bulbs will get really hot and start to melt the base of the bulb giving you that burnt electrical smell. Try changing out the bulbs, and if thats not the problem, there is not much to the wiring on those hoods. The cord comes in and one wire goes to the switch and one goes to the light, and a second wire comes off the switch to the light. Take it apart and check the connections, you will be able to tell if the connections are melted or loose, and if you are unsure of what to do you can work with one wire at a time. Just remember to unplug the light before doing any work on it.
  19. I decided I'm going to try them in my planted tank.
  20. Like I said, it was a gamble. I had 2/3 of it right, what do expect from a truck driver. Do I get my diploma or do I crash and burn.
  21. I have 2 little queen arabesque plecos (about 2 to 3 inches long) in a tank with a L-88pleco, kyoga flamebacks and yellow labs. They have been in this tank for a little over a year, and I would like to move them to a different tank. My choices of tanks are, planted tank with all small fish (the biggest fish in there is a pr. of albino kribs), 55 gal with severums congo tetras and 2 leopard bush fish, 33 gal fry tank, or 60 gal with Ps. acei. Any ideas of what tank would be the best choice. I was thinking of the planted tank, but i'm not sure if they will dig up the plants or not.
  22. I would take a gamble that UBC stands for upper British Columbia.
  23. They do, for me anyway. When they get out of control I just throw in a slice of cucumber or zuccini after lights out, when the slice is full remove from the tank, Sell, give away, feed to loaches (small ones), flush them, my africans and south americans like chewing on them also.
  24. At 1.5" long that is a fair size ram. I have put 3/4 to 1" fry back in the tank with adults and had no problems.
  25. You can use Slo-Zap coral glue, or krazy glue to stick the moss on.
