  1. Each auction is different. Some you may find that you have a lot of africans, others you may find hardly any, same with angels. You will always find plants though. You won't know what is at each auction until the day of. We will usually have at least 500 lots before any donations or other special lots. For those people out of town, bumps are $2.00 in case you have to leave and the item's table isn't up yet. As well, for people that stay till the bitter end there are door prizes for those lucky enough to get a winning ticket. The raffles you do not have to be present to win although its always nice to take your winnings home with you.
  2. If you are going to hit 3, then Aquarium Central (in North Central Edmonton), Nature's Corner (S Edmonton) and Big Al's (S Edmonton). That would be the route I would take as you could then hit the highway after Big Al's.
  3. The shrimp should be safe. I have assassin snails in with my crystal blacks and blue pearls. All shrimp and assassins are breeding.
  4. Riverfront isn't gone as far as I know, they have moved though.
  5. Hello everyone, the date and place have been set for the September meeting. It will be on September 6 and the place will be Allendale Community Hall The address is: 6330-105A St. The topic: Live Foods Hope to see everyone there.
  6. Not enough to be noticeable. I did a pH test. I figure if its not broke, don't try to tinker with it.
  7. Tank: 7 gallon custom tank (bought from Kayen) Substrate: ADA soil Plants: HC, Moss and hair algae (it provides cover for the shrimplets) Primary inhabitants: Yellow Shrimp, Orange Eye Blue Tigers, White Orchid Sulawesi Other inhabitants: 2 green rasboras, ramshorn snails (the rasboras don't eat the shrimp) Lighting: 2x8w T5 fixture Filtration: Small HoB Filter with sponge over intake Water: straight Edmonton Tap Water with dechlorinated with Prime pH: 7.8 Other things: Shrimp Lab Mineral Rock in the tank. The yellow shrimp are from two sources: Canadian Aquatics and Igor Kanshyn (Aquabid) White Orchids: Canadian Aquatics & Big Al's (recently to get some genetic diversity) OEBT: Anna Holt I feed them Shirakura shrimp food (I bought a bunch a while back from Canadian Aquatics) Min 25% water change a week.
  8. btw I thought club membership was $25/year. Eugene must've been getting too much sun this summer.
  9. The Calgary and Edmonton Club run two auctions a year, fall and spring. If you want to sell items in the auction you do need to be a member (don't have to be a member of both clubs as each club will allow other aquarium club members to sell in their auctions). If you want to buy, then all you have to do is bring money and spend it all. Hope this helps some. BTW I will probably post the date of the Edmonton auction once I find out when it is.
  10. The tank I have the white orchid sulawesi shrimp, OEBT and yellow shrimp are reproducing. I've seen baby OEBT's and baby white orchids.
  11. Guess its time to update my list: Melanotaenia praecox 'pagai' Melanotaenia bosemanni Glossolepsis doryiti Oryzias woworae Altolamprolgus compressiceps Lamprologus brevis Cherry Shrimp Yellow Shrimp Blue Pearl Shrimp Crystal Black Shrimp Orange Eye Blue Tiger Shrimp Starry Night Shrimp Enneacampus ansorgii Freshwater Tiger Shrimp As well I do have breeding pairs of Mesonauta insignis and Geophagus sp. Red Head Tapajos just haven't devoted as much time to them as I should.
  12. On my last group order that I organized for Canadian Aquatics, I picked up 10 of the white orchid shrimps (aka starry night). I lost one in the bag and the rest survived. I'm not sure how many I have left, but I know I still have some. I even thought I saw a baby once last week. They are in with my yellows and OEBT's both of which are breeding in the tank.
  13. Nice, the plant is Aponogeton ulvaceus. I got one from Aquarium Central and so far it has thrown up about 5 flowering shoots.
  14. Gary brought up pairs of Pseudomugil gertrudae 'Aru II' and eggs as well to the Edmonton and Calgary workshops. Keep them in a covered planted tank as they like to jump.
  15. 1 gallon is approximately 4L 10,000/4 will give you approximate 2500G from there 15/2500*125g for dosage for 15gallons 50/2500*125g for 50 gallons.
  16. The other question is what are you doing when you add fish? Are you just floating the bag and then transferring the fish into the tank or are you slowly adding tank water into the bag. I have had success acclimating fish from Vancouver where the water is very soft and acidic compared to Edmonton. It takes me at least an hour to do it though but it can be done. If you were to add rift lake cichlids the only fish that you have that might have problems would be the bolivian ram, the others can hold their own against cichlids.
  17. Hello Igor, welcome to AA. The yellow shrimp I have from you are doing great and got lots of little shrimplets.
  18. Snails and shrimp will breed together, just have to take a look at my yellow shrimp tank.
  19. There are times that a LFS will order a certain fish and get something else instead or there may be a contaminant in with the bag of fish that they ordered. Sometimes they may be switching tanks around and haven't gotten around to changing the labels as well. If you still have your receipt you can always call the LFS and see if they will exchange the JD for a johanni.
  20. BUMP the last day to order will be June 5th, delivery will be June 7th and pickup will be at the ACE meeting that evening starting at 7:30. As well for those of you that want to order but don't want to keep the worms in the fridge with your food, Home Depot is selling a 6 bottle wine cooler for $39.99. It will easily hold 4 worm keepers which will be about a pound.
  21. Nature's Corner on 51st Avenue, Aquarium Central on 111 Ave, Big Al's on 99 St are pretty much the big three. Others are Aquarium Illusions by Mayfield (mostly salt with some fresh), Blue Water (salt only), Marine Aquaria (salt only), and then the PJ's Pets which are all over the city.
  22. bump, the order will be placed, this will probably be my last order before the summer holidays. It will probably resume in September. Again if interested PM me or reply to this topic.
