  1. I bought a small can at Henry's some time ago. You might want to check with him. Rick
  2. Agreed. I've used this method too and it works great but I've also found a few dead fish in the bottle. I was checking it 2-3 times a day but I guess that wasn't enough when there are fish trapped in a small container. Not sure if its lack of oxygen or from waste build up, since there is no water flow. To help with lack of water movement you could try cutting holes out of the bottle and putting netting over them. Or just use a very small hole punch, pin or what ever, and use a lot of them.
  3. I've used this method, works good but you have to take the critters out fairly quickly. They run out of oxygen, I found, in less than an hour. Rick
  4. Check with Henry at Natures Corner. I'll bet he'll know someone. Rick
  5. That is a really good article! Thank you for posting that. I just might try a pile of oak leaves in my shrimp tank.
  6. That slim is really no problem. If you've got snails in there, they will eat it, if not it will disappear on it's own. Some folks try to scrub it off but untill the wood is waterlogged, it will just come back. It's more unsightly than any thing else.
  7. Do you let the runner come up out of the water? It won't flower unless it is above water. If that's not it I'm sure Werner will be able to tell us.
  8. sell me some mts! Me too! Me too!
  9. That should work fine. Don't forget to let us know how it works.
  10. That's interesting. Like the MSDS says, make sure it's wet when you go to do a gravel cleaning
  11. What about inverts? Could there be copper leaching that would poison them?
  12. Most people use polyester filter material, the white fluffy stuff you get at the LFS. You can buy it at a sewing store or in bags at Wally-world type places. Get the batts for quilts, not the loose bags, that's for pillows. Use it as the last media that your water flows through and your water will come out nice. If that's not clear enough you'll have to use a diatom filter. It's a separate canister that temporarily hangs on the side and filters through Diatomaceous earth to filter down to about 3 microns, if I remember correctly.
  13. Want some C. Wendtii? I can give you a large bunch. PM me.
  14. There's an "upload image" icon up on the top menu when you are writing your message.
  15. Good point. I guess I could remove the solenoid and plug my elite mini filte into the light timer. Does anyone here run their co2 24/7 without it being on a timer? did you notice any changes in the fish over night? I've had my CO2 running 24/7 for 2 years plus in a 175 gl tank. No trouble at all. I'm running about 40 ppm and follow the E.I. Those whom I have given plants to can vouch for how healthy my plants and fish are.
  16. There is a slight white wash to the vid, so you are getting some IR reflection, but maybe not enough to be of consiquence. I'd be interested to see a shot from inside to outside. I'm curious if the temp difference from inside to out would have an effect.
  17. Don't bother trying to save the filter media, it's almost imposible to get the salt out. Another thing you can do to desolve the salt from the empty housing is hang it on the inside of a 5 gallon pail filled with strong vinegar solution and plug it in for a couple of hours, change the water and do it again. This will cut down on the scrubbing required.
  18. I don't know that you can shoot IR through a window, the window reflects the infra-red waves back at the camera. My son is in the security monitoring business, I'll ask him about it. Is this a still camera or a security type?
  19. Have you checked with Henry at Natures Corner?
  20. Most The People I Know Have Around 2-3 Filters On There Tanks .... So I Dont See It As Over Kill Two or three isn't overkill, I agree, I was trying to make the point that you would have to have an inordinate number or filters with scrubbies to run out of bacteria. Just a little education at the same time, you know how it goes. :smokey:
  21. They work just fine. They provide a very great deal of surface area for the bacteria to grow on. The more surface area the better, up to the point where you don't have enough food to feed the bacteria. That would be way overkill though. I don't think any reasonable person would put that many filters on their tank.
  22. Don't loose the plastic gasket that goes between the regulator and the bottle. When you put it back on it only needs to be tight enough to stop a leak. Rick
  23. Ruadh

    CO2

The only time mine has been off in two years is when I change the tank. I maintain 40 ppm and have never had a problem
  24. I agree with you. No nitrate but both fresh and salt water pH.
