  1. Could be an opitcal dellusion. Green background giving the appearance of clear solution. Pull it out and examine the colour under ambient light. Manufacturers suggest changing the solution every month or so, perhaps expired, or diluted from condensation?
  2. Is this a moneyback guaranteed ?
  3. Temp. is the greatest influence on disolved Oxygen. Exchange has value as well. CO2 levels are completely independant of oxygen. They have no relationship. I run CO2 24/7. The original observation is interesting. Can a fish without a labyrinth orgin benefit ( get oxygen) from gulping air ?
  4. Reminds of when camping when we were kids. We would pull water logged rocks out of the creek and throw them in the fire. One in four would explode.
  5. Is that the fish whos bottom fangs are receptacated in the top lip?
  6. Yes the weight will give it away. Electronic are nearly weightless. Tar ballasts are , , ,well ,, ,full of tar. Better than 1969 Miss Nebraska beef ? Thats to close to call
  7. Stem plants do not have a max height; if you can put light to them - they will continue to grow. Very hard to tell until you grow submerged leaf. This ,,, Started out looking like this,,, ,
  8. This one is for sure Other than that - like you said; sometimes hard to tell. After completing the birthing process the female looks absolutely emaciated. Thats uasully the signal to start looking for fry. Is this pair still in a community tank? Is it possible the fry are immediately consumed by the other tank mates?

We are tripp'n up on the vocabulary. fluorescent lamp n 1. (Engineering / Electrical Engineering) a type of lamp in which an electrical gas discharge is maintained in a tube with a thin layer of phosphor on its inside surface. The gas, which is often mercury vapour, emits ultraviolet radiation causing the phosphor to fluoresce.

Did anyone read the original post?
  11. PMS The females run the show in that tank. The males will sometimes establish a 'no fly zone' in a chosen spot; chasing all but chosen fish out of the area. Males will 'flash' against rocks or hardscape. Males present themselves before a female - quarter away- then vibrate. Have you seen that move? Silly guys look like they would end up with shaken baby syndrome. My wife calls it the "sexy, sexy" because the Ameca's look just like the Zohan. Side by side copulations last a few moments and is usually mobile, as they make their way up or along the tank. Ameca will tolerate a huge variance in temps. High altitude, shallow streams in Mexico makes for large fluctuations. I have keep mine anywhere in between 8 and 40 Celsius
  12. The VHO moniker is typically applied to T12 linear fluorescent lamps. The bulb to fit your fixture is better known as PC or power compact. They are becoming obselete as they are overshadowed (har, har) by T5 HO. Allegedly PC's run hot and by virtue of their shape do not get along well with reflectors. If the ballast is electronic (as opposed to magnetic) you may fire a T5HO with retrofit tombstones.
  13. If its red , its dead. Only in this cruel planted world could healthy algae appear so lush - and dead algae appear so unsightly.
  14. The gas is best drawn from a hub; rather than a 'T' I have found a T'd line will always play favourites - more gas to one line equals less pressure to the other. From a hub there is constant pressure to be directed where you see fit. You are not allowed to use that image extension on this community thats cute- I sure was yesterday ? http://www.google.ca/imgres?q=aquarium+co2+splitter&um=1&hl=en&biw=1024&bih=579&tbm=isch&tbnid=XaLQV3x0dLKEMM:&imgrefurl=http://aquashop88.com/index.php%3Fmain_page%3Dproduct_info%26products_id%3D172&docid=3MLLcIsjhG4Z_M&imgurl=http://aquashop88.com/images/ANS%252520High%252520Quality%252520Brass%252520Co2%2525203%252520Way%252520Divider%2525201.jpg&w=600&h=450&ei=CpFXT6zBC-TMiQKb7YWZCw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=356&vpy=57&dur=2250&hovh=194&hovw=259&tx=108&ty=126&sig=113234715052899336954&page=1&tbnh=118&tbnw=157&start=0&ndsp=17&ved=1t:429,r:2,s:0 http://www.google.ca...=1t:429,r:2,s:0 If you know anyone in instramentation, they could slap one up.
  15. Carefull, it only seems insignificant until prevoked. Thats how he gets 'ya . . . .Here, I found a larger photo. . . . .
  16. I looked on the distributors website. What I did not see, was NSF certification. Perhaps it is buried deeper than I could see. I would consider this standard to be important. They are pitching the HM 3 TDS metre . You may consider an upgrade there. I feel a metre that is to be dipped in water should be water proof. Only the HMcom100 is waterproof. No thoughts on a group buy.
  17. Most stem plants fit the bill. Rotala comes to mind. It will enjoy any amount of light you can throw @ it. The same could be said for hygro. difformis
  18. That sums 'r up, right there. I have also found no snail can survive in a CO2enriched aquarium.
  19. Well, that certainly narrows it down then. You have a viable/proven pair, tempurature is inconsequential, and assuming you are on tap water - all is well. Perhaps diet ? What are they eating? Ameca are decidedly herbivorious. I once had a batch exclusively eating New life Spectrum Grow - nary a fry to be had.
  20. NO, this is a photo of a male Ameca.
  21. An aquarium pump may top out @ 1-2 PSI. Most pressurised CO2 systems typically operate in excess of ten times more pressure.
  22. Start perhaps with the most rudimentary requirement, ,,, , This Ameca is male This fish is a female Is this fish a female ?
  23. Looks stellar. Have you started injecting C02 ?
  24. All T8 bulbs of that length will be of equal wattage. More bulbs will increase intensity. No bulb is vastly superior than another. Reefering to this chart http://albertaaquati...showtopic=31834 A single T5HO (superior reflector) sitting atop your 16" tank will give you around 125 PAR. This would easily fall into the common perception of " high light". More than enough for starts.
  25. Sorry, Yes!! an acronym for photosynthetically active radiation. Jury is out When you swim in that sea of tears - you swim alone. http://tinyurl.com/84blxyn
