  1. This is only the second time in a 2 year span that they have spawned... The male is very picky as i have a female that has been ready to hold almost monthy but he won't give her the time of day. this will be a different female and i'm hoping that they are just as nice. We'll see if she holds to term though as this was her first time. nev
  2. The female that i have with my Big Dominant male is about half the size. I just didn't think it could work, but when i got home from school she has the biggest mouthful out of any holding fish that i have ever seen! This will be her first time holding and there is something strange about what i see. I can see a mouthfull of eggs when i look into her mouth but from the bottom i can see what appears to be a black spot. This could be one of 2 things... while spawning (given that this is her first time) did she pick up a black rock by mistake? could there be a rotton egg that would have turned black on her so quickly? I'm left to guess as i have no clue... has anyone had a similar experience? nev
  3. Sounds like the common marriage... jj nev
  4. Very Nice! what female to male ratio do you have? have they ever spawned for you? nev
  5. ... And your wife let you do this? I'm going to get in trouble when i show my wife these pics and tell her this is what i'm going to do! nice setup! nev
  6. I'll be there... I'm kind of surprised that there is no other information on the ACE website. Times? Address? Does anyone know this information? nev
  7. If you could have ONLY one tank, any size and with any stock in it... what would you have? after seeing this thread i have a new goal in life: http://www.cichlid-forum.com/phpBB/viewtop...&highlight= http://www.cichlid-forum.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=122516 I don't think i would ever swim with my fish though... What would yours be? nev
  8. Very Cool! Thanks for sharing! nev
  9. Aquanerd on this site is from Wainwright but he hasn't been on this site in a while. I haven't talked to him in about a year now... sad on my part as i have been so busy! nev
  10. Interesting topic... I will always consider my fish to be my pets as going up we couldn't get a dog with my brother's allergies. I think I would be devastated if something were to happen with my Saulosi group. It took me over a year to find a small group and now that I am a year into them and the group is growing, I wouldn't give them up for the world. now... there are other fish I have in my other tank that I would also consider fillers. I'm using this tank as a grow out but the it also has a few fish that that I have had longer than my Saulosi. A perfect example would be my afra's that are now starting to die off (there is no real reason as to why my group has died off, but they are). I am left to only a single female out of this group and I can honestly say that I'm not missing them. Sure I enjoyed the color they added to the tank, but now I'm more looking forward to getting a group of Polit's to replace them. Can you imagine if had the same attitude with another type of pet such as dogs or cats... Are they different just because we have a vet we can take them too when sick? Limited by law as to how many we can keep in a house hold? nev
  11. I think Val called it! Congrats! nev
  12. This website may give you a good start as well: http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/ nev
  13. First question you have to ask your self is what colors would you like in your tank. 2nd question is to figure out if you would prefer mbuna (most aggressive), peacocks or Haps. 3rd... If you are still unsure go check out Golds and you may get a better chance to see whats out there. I wouln't recommend mixing mbuna/haps/peacocks but to stick with one type alone. I woun't recommend keeping males and females that have similar colors as you may find inbreeding. I personally like Blue's and Yellows and I am very happy with my Saulosi... hope this gives you a good start! nev
