  1. I started up my saltwater tank a little over a month ago. It is completely cycled. Levels are all good. But everytime i try to add a fish, it dies. Im thinking there is a toxin in the water(windex...ext). I dont know how to test for a problem like this and i really want to know how to get rid of it. I have been doing water changes, which seem to be helping a bit. I currently have a crab in the tank who seems to be doing fine but the fish keep dieing. I don't have any carbon in the tank right now. Is this something i should add?
  2. They look healthy to me, but then again, i don't know very much about Severums and maybe someone more experienced would be able to tell.
  3. Im sorry to hear about your loss.
  4. Im happy to announce that the ruby red peacock is eating like a pig. He didn't lose too much weight and is starting to color up again. As for the lwanda in the other tank, he started to eat today as well. So he should be on the road to recovery. Thanks again to everyone that helped. Im still new to this and with so many tanks, a newbie is bound to get in some trouble.
  5. I will make sure i keep a close eye on all the fish in the tank. Try and catch it in the beginning stages if there is anything.
  6. Thats what i was thinking. I really don't have a hospital tank big enough to keep them in. The risk was pretty much a must. I could have moved other fish around, and put them in the 55 but then the polits + the finally recovered ruby red peacocks would have to get moved, causing more stress on recovering fish. I don't really know if i had any other option. I will defiantly keep that in mind for the future. So you said that the wild caught fish can be immune to a disease. Does that mean i have to treat for everything just to prevent a possible outbreak? Thanks to everyone who has helped and i will keep you posted on how there condition is.
  7. I bought them at a the pet superstore in Sherwood park. They have been there for a little while now, and there very good at keeping there fish healthy. I was keeping an eye on them in the store for a while, and they never had any signs of anything wrong. I am surprised as well that they were labeled wrong. The picture that is above looked identical to the ones I have. They have the very strong red/orange coloration and there black stripes are dark. When you say give them time....how much time are we talking? Thanks for all the replies.
  8. They are in the 210 Gallon with a bunch of other Cichlids. Biggest fish in there is 4 inches. What is garlic guard and where do i find it. Im afraid that if i try to feed specific food, that the rest of the fish will eat it before they get a chance.
  9. I recently purchased 2 Wildcaught Orange Necktie Severums. I put them in a tank with some juviniles. I was a little worried that the severums would injure the others since they are full grown but they havent touched them. I brought them home a couple of days ago, and made sure i accustomed them to the water. The next morning i went to feed and they werent interested in the food. I figured the food i was feeding the other fish was too small for them to notice, so i got some larger NLS pellets and they still aren't eating. They both are very shy and stay as far away as possible. Im a little worried about them since they cost me $120. Is there a special food that i should be feeding severums? What should i do?
  10. Welcome back to the hobby. Good luck with your tanks.
  11. I thought you said a couple haha. Looks good.
  12. Like firestorm said, a QT tank is to stop the spread of disease, lower the stress, and the ability to administer meds without stressing other fish. If your planning on putting glass dividers in, your going to have to put separate filters in each compartment. Im not sure if enough heat will pass through the glass to warm another compartment so you might need a heater for each as well. Good luck with the set up and I hope this helped.
  13. :welcome: and good luck with the spawning.

Welcome to AA. Are you planning on getting some more tanks? Or staying with the 20?
  18. Have any of your fish shown any signs? I hope the situation with the fish dieing resolves itself. Good luck
  19. I think i will be there as well. Do i have to bring the $25 and the membership form to the meeting?
  20. Im very sorry to hear about your losses Harold. I cant even try to understand what your going through. This is an eye opener for a lot of people who have never had problems doing water changes. I do all 8 of my tanks in one day. Which i should rethink after hearing your situation. Im sorry again and I hope the rest of your fish hang in there. Shauna
  21. I agree with you. i don't have an algae problem in a couple of my tanks, but then my 210 has been getting a little. Its sickly over filtrated and isn't overstocked at this point. So i don't understand. Water chemistry is something i don't want to think about. All i know is it happens, so we deal with it.
  22. Voted Malawi. Only reason is because i have never kept anything else. Wouldn't mind a tang tank though.
