  1. go with teh 20 for sure. you'll find that the 10 is way too small after about a month. i've had my 29 running for about 3 months now and i want something twice the size
  2. I have about 11 barbs - tigers, ruby and rosies. I absolutely hate them (my mother loves them so i leave them in the tank for her viewing pleasure) although they are very very active in my tank and quite colorful, i simply hate the fact that I can't put much else in the tank due to their aggressiveness, mainly the green tigers. the rubys and rosys dont seem to be aggressive at all.
  3. all the smaller aros at Big Al's ive seen have some really nice color.
  4. is Java a place? by local plants did the OP mean something that was growing locally? or bought locally? my plants were all bought locally.
  5. I tossed in 2 anubias and a java fern into my tank and everything seems ok. one of the anubias is satrting to show yellow leaves though :S
  6. I will have to look into this further. the amount of poop in my gravel is absolutely disgusting during my weekly vacuums.
  7. is playground sand heavy enough to not get sucked up by gravel vacuums? I've been wanteing to change out the gravel in my tank for some time now,
  8. very nice!! is the lining similar to like a truck bed liner? just s thick coat that you spray on?
  9. I have a biowheel filter so i put in a new filter, running with the old filter and removed the old filter 1-2 weeks later to avoid removing a large amount of the BB I'll keep an eye on the tank and see what happens over the next month or 2 and hope things dont go south thanks.
  10. i have a 5 gallon tank i can quarantine him in if need be. the tank is about 2-3 months old. and I changed the filter earlier this week, which may may have contributed to the small ammonia spike. the ammonia levels have been 0 for quite some time now. i said 0-.25 because my test kit shows 0 as yellow, .25 as light green and my test came out to a dark yellow. I will start bumping up my water changes. to see if that helps. thanks
  11. hey guys, I have a 6" Goldspot pleco and I can't figure out what's stressing him. he is housed in a 29Gallon tank with a cave he calls his own along with 3 small pictus and some small barbs, the other fish no signs of stress. I monitor the tank often at different time of the day and as far as I can tell none of the other fish are bothering him. he has had heavy breathing on and off for a couple weeks now. he's fairly active when no one is watching him otherwise he hides in his cave. I always see him swimming back to his cave when I walk up to the tank or turn on a room light sometimes he continues with his wall sucking for a bit before returning to his cave ammonia levels are 0-.25 nitrite levels are 0 nitrates are 5-10 temperature is at ~25ÂșC I do weekly 4-8 gallon water changes and gravel vacuums. He eats regularly. I feed him mushroom or zucchinni - he stopped eating sinking wafers, tried 2 different brands with no luck, sometimes he'll nibble on the hikari wafers but usually never finished them any ideas would be much appreciated. thanks
  12. Sorry, I misunderstood your question. I thought you were just asking about tank lighting. I'm using overhead flashes. I love bombing them with lots of light. LOL, yeah that makes more sense
  13. wow, thats impressive , my powerglos aren't nearly strong enough for anythiung under 3200ISO. even at large aperture.
  14. anubias are pretty hardy, can survive in low light and low CO2 as well
  15. beautiful fish, great pics too. I will own an aro one day.
  16. seems that the 10 minute boil and few hours of cold soaking did the trick sinks like a rock now!
  17. thanks, i'll keep it soaking. "Zoo Med Aquatic Natural Mopani Wood" sounds about right. I boiled it today for about 10 minutes and the water looked like rasberry ice tea. lol
  18. I checked them out on Friday and YES they have Java Ferns, I picked one up, it was fabulous. as well as 2 anubias THANKS NC!
  19. not sure if its GEOsystem, it had a lizard on it. i got it from natures cornerstore if that helps ill let it soak for a couple weeks if i have to the wood is quite nice looking. i dont mind if it changes the water color, i have a couple logs that are already doing that.
  20. I got a log today to tie my plants to, and on the tag it says it should sink immediately in aquariums well, it floats...like crazy....lol It's been soaking in water (weighed down) for the last few hours with no changes, will it eventually sink when it has enough water soaked in? it is called "Mopani wood" thanks
  21. wicked, the driftwood is a killer addition.
