  1. I often drop off 2-5 donations for the auction (snails, plants, unwanted equipment/supplies). Does this rule affect people who randomly drop things off for the auction as a donation to the club? No, donations are handled separately we don't count them in the 500 lots so we do end up going a bit over but it's usually not to big a problem
  2. For our April meeting we have Troy Turner booked to give a talk on his trip to lake Malawi or 'Safari with Konings 2010' this is something that many of us would like to do I'm sure and we are also having our annual 'Aquarium Beautiful'contest. Please contact Rudy to submit your entry to the contest Thank you
  3. Due to the fact that at our last several auctions we have been going way over our cut off of 500 lots we have to reinstitute our rule about pre-booking the lots.We have been warned by the care taker of the hall that if we go over our alloted time again that he would have to charge us an extra days rent, so please book you lots early with Michael at mituan@hotmail.com Remember that club members only are allowed to sell [yes any registered fish club]but anyone can buy. You are restricted to 20 lots each but extra lots will be assigned on a first come basis if they are still availible. Thank you
  4. Remember that if you wish to hear Gary's talk on his trip you have to book supper tickets with Michael Pham at mituan@hotmail.com anyone can book these [you dont have to be a club member] all the other talks are free.

  6. The Aquarium Club of Edmonton is very lucky to have several members who are expert or close to it in a number of specialties, this month we get to hear from one of them, Paul Belanger is giving a talk on his experiences with Coryadoras catfish, he has a vast experience with these little gems and is a great source of information on them. 12. A wet vacuum works great for getting rid of any oily surface sheen such as the one that you get from feeding mysis shrimp or any oily fish, once every couple of days for a week or so should do it and in fresh water tanks you can use it to rid yourself of duck weed in a few minutes.
  13. You can try a thin film of vaseline on the lip of the jar and if the hoses are old you might try cutting about an inch off each end to make sure that the hoses are seated properly Good luck
  14. BA's has a cool looking chocolate gourami thats a mouthbrooder Sphaerichthys Vaillanti the males are starting to color up really nicely
  15. I agree with Werner, every hobbiest must establish their own limits. The ACE has this question arises often when we are planning a show but where do you draw the line on hybrids when so many have been accepted in the hobby for so long. Many of the peacocks [ aulonocara] are purposely hybridized as are almost any swordtail available now.I personally cant stand bubble eye goldfish or ballon anything but they are widely accepted for some strange reason. the ACE does draw the line at dyed or injected fish [we think thats a no brainer] and the Alberta government made the decision to band the transgenic glowfish so no need for us to deal with that yet so do your research and make up your own mind and if someone tells you that hybrids are abhorent just ask them if they can tell which of the beautiful peacocks are wild types
  16. If they are white and you culture your own compost worms then they are probably springtails, totally harmless

  18. How high did you turn up the heat? warm water does not carry as much oxygen as cool water and if your tank is overcrowded and you turn up the heat dead fish are almost garrenteed
  19. I've spawned several types of Calvus and Compressiceps, they are very slow to mature and my best success was with conch shells standing upright, they seem to like vertical oriented spaces, there are some people who build vertcal caves similar to pleco caves out of terracotta that should work
