  1. No clue, but I've read that people can get effects similar to moonlighting with regular blue incandescent bulbs.
  2. Ditch all the old water, ditch the old substrate and filter medium. Grab yourself a few pounds of live sand, or that activated sand in case you don't have live sand in your area. Don't cycle with fish, cycle with live rock. Leave lights off while cycling (2 weeks). Don't add so many fish at once. Maybe a pair of clowns, max. Bam!
  3. Sorry for the long wait. I just had to run it across Dennis first. In any case, I'll take care of the linking as soon as I get my camera cable back. Accidentally left it in my car and my mom took the car out somewhere. Jay, PM me back guy!
  4. I'm still up for the 8 severums ($10 US each) and whatever shipping they need.
  5. Oh, crap, I forgot about this thread sorry. If you're that packed for space, I really don't see a solution to your agenda other then a big hammer and preparation for a divorce...
  6. GRRRR, my ftp isn't allowing me to log in. I'll get the whole thing up as soon as I figure out what the problem is.
  7. K, this just in: In order to help growth on this site, I thought it would be a good idea to maybe place a link on www.cichlids.ca to get some more exposure (I get excess of 2000 hits a day now). Would anyone see problems with this before I go ahead and do it?
  8. You should see the basement I'm about to flood for my new corydoras breeding project.
  9. Alright, how does everyone want to do this? I should be ready for this order by next week. I have to set up a tank right away here. Anyone else up for doing this by then? If not, what time frame is most convenient for everyone?
  10. Forget the fish room, how you gonna get your bat cave under there?
  11. Have you tried setting the tanks so that they are set lengthwise alongside each other? Actually, are you even using tanks? Sounds like you have a wild set up there. Pics are in order!
  12. I'll do six to ten fish at $10 (US) each. Does anyone know the conversion for that?
  13. Ps. saulosi. The peacock isn't really a viable fish for the market. There's just too many other peacocks that eclipse it. We did have them at the store six months ago and they kinda just got forgotten.
  14. Nope, none there right now. We do have saulosi though.
  15. Still hanging on for those Severums. Keep us posted Tim.
  16. Do I get to count the fish that I am hired to maintain at Gold Aquariums? :P
  17. If you're looking for mbuna, we have the following at Gold's: Cynotilapia afra "mbweca green" Labidochromis pearlmutt Pseudotropheus shauri Pseudotropheus saulosi Electric Yellows (really small though) Labidochromis freibergi Pseudotropheus polit (F1) Pseudotropheus acei "white tail" On another note, males between maingano and johanni are really similar looking and you probably won't get much definition to your color scheme mixing the two (that is, assuming you were planning on mixing them, otherwise just ignore me).
  18. Heh, you should see some of the shots me and a friend were able to catch though. Our site (Gold Aquariums) should be up by this Friday.
  19. UPDATE: By next, next Friday, I will probably have another five or six pieces of SPS corals in the tank in addition to the pocillipora, acro and montipora's that are already in the tank. Will be interesting to see how additonal SPS do under this Power Compact. The ones already there are doing awesome. Crazy polyp extention. Only downside is that they'll probably never develope the crazy colors everyone associates with metal halide lighting.
  20. Sweet pics man. I dunno about you, but I can spend hours before I get a good pose out of my fish. Little bastards... Heh, keep up the good work!
  21. It would be easier if I took pictures. I'll try to get those up as soon as I have time. Premise is simple though. You're pretty much walling off a section in the AC 500 to plant macro algaes and allow all the bugs and worms a place to breed without threat of predation.
  22. A full blown, elaborate set up could cost you thousands. Something like this will probably run you roughly $1000 assuming you don't have the tank or anything. Mind you, most people spend that money in $50 increments. I just happened to have the luxury of store stock being on hand and unlimted budget. To be fair though, assuming you have the tank, filter and stand, a take home package for the first two weeks would be roughly $200. You're looking at the salt, substrate, hydrometer, additional powerhead and some live rock. Really, I think the investment is worth the conversation piece.
  23. Quarantine tanks will save you incredible amounts of money over the long run. Basics looks something like this: 20 gal tank $25 Heater $ 36 AC 300 $35 Hiding places $whatever Just under $100 for something that will keep your tank healthy? Good tradeoff IMO. Anyway, with the clowns; wild clownfish can be exceptionally poor shippers. Sometimes you will get animals that come out of the bag already covered with that velvety crap (clownfish disease). Most of the stuff can be taken cared of with malachite green.
