i think thats about it. maybe if your pump wont work to return the water from the sump consider getting a bigger pump i believe they are cheeper than $120 for a new canister. but also talk to a planted tank guru about the co2 gassing off advantages/disadvangates for the canister/sump,because i dont know much about c02 yet. im setting up my co2 in a month or so

1+ i have seen people decorate a tank,fill it,setup filters,grab a sponge from a cycled tank. 2-3 good squishes of the sponge then they added fish 5 mins later no losses,fish seemed a little stressed but fine on my discus tank im running 2x aquaclear 110s,and a eheim pro 3 2080 i do so many water changes(70% every 2days)i dont see a need for carbon. but if i know i will be skipping a water change for one day i will add a little carbon in the filter(barebottom tank,no plants to clean it). i figure pack those filters with as much bioballs and floss as possible,every week clean your filters slightly,in a discus tank lots of uneaten food gets sucked up and can rot in your filter causing bad water. you have to think that some people have so much filtration on a discus tank that if there was something rotting in the filter, your ''clean'' water will pass by it up to 10X per hour also i have never seen this before but a reputable source told me that too much carbon in a tank can cause discus to have lateral line disease

i dont know much about salt water,but from the sounds of it,your nitrates build at a normal rate but because salt keepers avoid changing water because of cost of marine salt,the nitrates need to be removed mechanically(skimmer,or something else) that is my general knowledge of SW keeping.

Sorry to hear about this jay,at least your wife saved the last few fish in the tank though. Hopefully your son learned from his mistake and you never have a problem like this again.

How long would they be okay in a 5g tank? I could buy one next time I'm over. I didn't realized what you had was more than you were planning to keep. I have such a nice idea for a custom made tank to feature the tree. Think it would be okay to be moved a few times til I can build the tank? I have no idea how quickly they grow. lets put it this way,they have only grown about 1inch -1.5 inch since i got them........the leaves originally all died off,now they have regrown to my lighting spectrum. doing good but slow growers,the ones that i dont have in fish tanks yet are growing slightly quicker because i can use ferts what would normally kill fish. they were in full saltwater when i bought them,i have slowly acclimated them to like 2% brackish,i hope to get them on full fresh

blues are nice. but depending on your water paramaters you should check out harolds Hyphessobrycon frankei also called the Ucayali tetra.

:rofl: i think you figured it out lol....jk this panacur seems good i just dont know ow much someone would dose. It's a good idea to treat all tanks. It can be easily transferred to others. Sprucegruve described them perfectly...a plague. I've had it twice, and it made it to every tank I had at the time. The meds will kill the worms, but not the eggs, which is why you need 2-3 doses of it spread between about a 14 day period. They're a pain to get rid of, but if you follow the directions then you should be able to get rid of them. Best of luck! yep this can spread very easily,i moved some plants from my 90 gallon and spread them to my 55 gallon last year. but levamisole doesn't kill the worms,it paralyzes them,which is why they suggest 50%-80% water change after doseing,so you suck them up out of the sand. you need to do a second dose just to be sure you get all the worms that are about to hatch

try some freeze dried foods from the pet store. krill,bloodworms,mysic shrimp,california blackworms. they are healthyer than live foods,and there is less chance of sickness

I personally use levamisole HCL You can buy it from www.canadianaquatics.com They will rush ship it to you overnight,they are in Vancouver Or if you need it quicker jayba can probably sell you some lev He lives around red deer,or I can mail you some levamisole HCL But this dog dewormer seems to be safe I was just reading up about it,but I can't find a dosing formula for aquariums Edit- these worms are a plague,good luck with them When I had them I dosed twice before they were completely gone, And I dosed a third time one month later just to be sure

If someone really wanted to test if moving water freezes then plug in a power head in a 5 gallon pail and put it in the freezer over night,it won't freeze

Yes I have heard of this before,she will probably molt and the eggs will fail.i hear this is a common problem in breeding crays. But if you search the Internet enough I'm sure there is someone that has figured out how to hatch them without the parent. I'm thinking maybe a egg tumbler for mouth brooding cichlids or something Edit-spelling

I saw my red railed shark do that once,he diddent shake it around aggressively though. That pretty cool,your fish control snail populations ,you could sell those for big money lol

aquarium central has a really good price on these compared to 'petland'. but i was wondering if all the bettas that arrived in calgary were male?all the ones at AC are male....i dont think anyone will get a chance to breed these guys if the fish farms are just sending males

There are a lot of mixed opinions about disuc care and breeding. I believe there are a couple people in Calgary that have had discus eggs hatch in normal Calgary tapwater. But I would still recommend softening your water a little bit,but keep in mind I'm new to discus,and have not bread them before. I have wild caught discus so I thought it would be best to mix a little r/o water with my tap water,if you are getting line bread discus I wouldent be as worried about the hard water because the water in Germany is pretty hard. But is your getting discus from an Asian farm then you should probably lower the hardness a bit. But like I said I'm new to discus. German breeders probably do use r/o water,because there water is so hard.

Thank you AriahJade for the good article. Just adding easy food for beginners There is a food product "golden pearls" is comes in very very small sizes. You could try the 5-50 micron size for for baby bettas. Or if you have a set of rubber boots,go to a clean pond or creek And collect daphnia for the baby bettas. Just make sure there are no farmers using pesticides or herbicides right by the creek,you don't want there garbage leeching into your food source. You can also collect glass shrimp,fairy shrimp,and mosquito larva at a pond/creek,but they will be too big for baby bettas. I have used the golden pearls,when I was waiting for my brine shrimp to hatch,it seemed to work well. My baby bristle nose plecos liked it,and so so did my baby lemon lime cichlids. When I was feeding baby brine shrimp to my fry,once a day I would add a small around of powder spirulina for them to eat and I never had any problems
