Cichlids will eat any new female fish put in the tank
Urban_Cowboy replied to Kiluminati's topic in African Cichlids
also if you use some of the store bought castles or similiar pieces some have holes in them big enough for fish to swim into and then they get stuck in there i found that one out after taking it out and finding 2 dead fish in it... now i make sure i cover any holes big enough for them to get into -
Running out of room, peacock fry with BN CLOSE THANKS
Urban_Cowboy replied to Ted's topic in Breeding Forum
well first congrats on all the babies you must be doing something right!! and second i dont think it will be a problem at all i had 2inch peacocks in with 1inch BN plecos and they didnt bother each other just give the plecos places to hide and everyone is happy -
find some old nylons with holes in them and cut a piece off... then just elastic that to the intake shouldnt effect flow very much and the fry wont get sucked up just a suggestion

how big is he? looks like a nice one

what do you mean by Attaching it to 2 other 75 gallons? your having all 3 75 gallon tanks drain into the 100 gallon "sump"? if that is the case how will you keep all 3 water levels even without overfilling one and underfilling the others? as for the wetdry/refugium i have seen most people put dividers in the sump and have 3 parts one refugium one full of scrunchies and other full of filtercloth (check the DIY section) as for getting in buffaloheads if you are coming to edmonton on friday i believe henry at natures corner is doing another great spencer jack order and spencer has buffalo heads among many other great fish on his list

i got these fish from Ryan Mahe no more then 2 weeks ago and from day 3 i was pretty sure they were gonna "do the deed" and i come home and tryed getting a picture...where she layed is very hard to get a picture but i got one and you can see about 1/4 of the total eggs in there i am quick guessing around 200!!! the eggs are in a clay pot and she almost filled it... i took a picture from a hole in the side of the pot and you can make out the eggs but can only see some of them hopefully they make it to term as i contacted Ryan and he said they never spawned for him... fingers are crossed here is dad kinda dark but you see what he looks like

Urban_Cowboy replied to prodogg02's topic in Marine Photography & Videos
Nice tank how long have you had it up and running for? It is coming along great! -
Quick question when bagging fish why do we use plastic bags? is it just because they are "Watertight" or is there some other reason... the reason i ask is i went out and bought some Rubbermaid tubs (10LX5WX5H inches) enough to fit 1 decent sized fish these fish have a 4 hour+ ride in my car... i guess my concern is will it hurt the fish to be in tubs rather then bags? pros and cons? the tubs are not air tight and i will have them in a Big box so that no water leaks out into my car... but isnt that better for the fish to not have to breathe in the CO2 and to have a bit of Oxygen Exchange?

Sad to hear that Valerie he looks like a great fish RIP

Welcome to AA looking forward to seeing some pics when you get all set up and ready!! Also for good well priced salty items try going to your local CAS (Calgary Aquarium Society) auction should be one coming up in 2-3 months again and there are usually some coral frags... check in at thier website im not sure what it is but i am sure someone can point you in the right direction... or just check with other saltwater people in calgary as they may sell some of thier stuff to you... good luck

TBH? and they are FAT! lol
-
Not too positive, but the closest one I could find was Tropheus duboisi 'Karilani' except that variant has a white band. yeah it looks alot alike but could it just be hiding the white? can tropheus do that? he gets fed NLS 2mm so it shouldnt be an issue of his/her diet
-
thanks i have them in a 108 Gallon tank and when i took this picture they were ALL in the same spot dont know why but that is basically every fish i have in the tank in that picture lol there are 13 OB's and a couple convicts and 3 other fish cant remember the names right off hand thanks ray that is exactly what they are i knew it started with "lep" just cuoldnt remember the rest anyone know what genius of tropheus that is? could very well be a cross for all i know... any suggestions would help
-
just a couple photos i am seeing how hard it is to upload and all that fun stuff as i have never done it before... first picture is some OB's i got from the calagary auction (i think an edmontonian brought them) about a year ago this is from the 120Gal can anyone identify these guys they are getting huge and for some reason i didnt think they were supposed to unknown tropheus and yellowlabs
-
just a complete guess but what about "micro bubbles" i noticed there seems to be more of the white specs higher in the tank rather then lower try filling the tank up right to the top so it is almost overflowing this way there is no "waterfall" effect out of your filters HOB filters tend to do that for me i could be totally out to lunch good luck
-
wow looks great!! and thanks again for the fish i got from you they are settling in well in thier new home
-
how much do those cost do you know off hand? and where to get them?
-
very cool fish definatly an "oddball" i dont know anything about them but they sure got everyones attention at the auction

very cool... i would just leave some of the babies in the tank if they are already 1.5CM they must have been in there a little while at least and have made it... so if you havent caught them already i would think they will be fine just my 2 cents congrats on the babies hope to see pics when they get a little bigger
