I don't think its a bad idea at all the only thing I can see is if the current gets too strong the fish wont have spots to rest but if it is just to clean the debris then it is a good plan

as long as they have places to hide you shouldn't have too many problems your tank should be big enough if your worried about anything just add another filter even just a smaller one over crowded demasoni's actually do very well since one fish cant get picked on constantly

I got a few plants a T5 48" light and a 24 inch T8 light a geo "bike creek" (I always end up with at least one of kens fish lol) some goodieds small blue regal peacocks a bunch of bristlenose plecos some white cloud minnows a bag of super cheap raindows) spent about 150$ great auction and I am sure both buyer and seller were decently happy with some of the prices I saw some items go high (cories plecos) and some went really low (rainbows, cichlids) I thought plants did fairly well compared to some auctions around 8$ or more some auctions you can really come home with full tanks thanks to all the ACE members for putting on another great day

hey harold i saw in the pictures listed "harolds cellar" a picture of a yellow synodontis catfish i tried looking them up but had very little luck what are they and can you get them again?

there is an esso on 156 and 111ave which is almost right outside the door to the hall, auction is 110 ave 154 st.... convinient enough it also has a tim hortons in there too win win for everyone

i get most of my driftwood from people on here post in equipment section and see if you get any hits.... if not Aquarium Central or Big Al's always have some in stock around 5$ i pound i believe (could be wrong price) which isnt terrible unless you get huge pieces...for fish suggestions i highly recommend red top hongi's i know someone in calagary is breeding them not sure about edmonton they are quite territorial but really cool to watch. if your looking for a more peacefull cichlid go with geo's or victorian lake cichlids i saw some good sized red head geo's at AC for 40 or so dollars each but you never see them around here

my advice would be get some "gnarly" driftwood as it will come with some hiding spots aka caves and you can find some for reasonable prices just about anywhere. as for rocks i personally love the look of slate and it gives a great contrast to the driftwood again giving even more caves. as for sand i have never tried it with an of my cichlids but i have heard it can be a pain to keep clean i just use small gravel and the fish can move it around as they see fit. one other thing i suggest is dont go for one of the more common types of africans get something you could possibly breed and find new homes for the babies it makes it alot more enjoyable

i got 2 king tiger pleco's for 20$ each which i couldnt believe everyone stopped bidding.... at least the third one went for over 50..... i also got 3 adult synodontis multi's and 3 bags of kens rainbowfish which look awesome already tonight and eatting well i thought prices for anubias were pretty reasonable but alot of other plants went for cheap

yeah either remove them or if you can remove the others if it is less of a hassle otherwise you may only get a few

are those altifron geo's for sale harold? i looked through your lists and didnt see any

i would make sure you take out any carbon/charcoal in the filter cause it will just filter out all your meds....

i would say calgarys is bigger but edmontons is equally as good definatly worth checking out

also some filters have flow settings that you can change or you could also split your return hose in 2 and have 2 different flow areas basically reducing one output to half... lots of ways to reduce flow not many i know of to increase it sounds like a good buy to me

ouch sorry to hear that how big of a tank was it? any flooding damage?

I only bought 3 fish this auction and some "fishcrack" but i still think i spent more on food then fish... i brought a couple friends with me and they said the same thing... that the hall was too small for that many people... great turnout and i had alot of fun as usual.... i also liked that some of the auctions were for a charity i think 990 was the # very good idea!!!!

well the first one looks like a baenshi peacock but it looks like he is not very dominant so his colors could be completly different then normal... second one looks like a taiwan reef he has the orange on the lower back fin.... and third one looks like a labidiocromis "hongi"..... these are mostly just guesses as they do look like some of the fish i have... the first one could even be a rubyred or eureka he is just trying to hide his colors for now

well i drove down from Edmonton and i think i almost spent more on hotdogs and pop then i did on fish lol... I bought 3 lamprologus sexfaciatus, a sunshine peacock pair but i dont think the male is gonna make it the trip was a little too much for him, a really big and fat bumblebee catfish, 2 corydoras, and an "unknown" the bag said he was a Geophagus but if it is then i have never seen one like him before has a green top and a pink underside/tail so not really sure.... i think i spent like 80$ on everything including food so it was a very CHEAP trip for me Ken kept outbidding me on the things i wanted but i didnt want them that bad lol

just a random post but knifefishfan there was an 18" knifefish at the calgary auction went for 5$ i couldnt believe it!!! wish i had the room for him/her he/she was awesome

if your looking for small and peacful i would try out kribs... sorry dont know the scientific name but they are a nice yellow with a pink belly and stay fairly small... electric yellows can get up around 4-5inch mark so they might outgrow your little girl fairly fast and mine definatly fight for territory.... as for the peacocks only the males get colorful and they tend to be aggressive at least in my tanks.... but i guess if you get a couple small ones you can grow them out and when they get big just sell them and get new ones.... happy hunting

i am guessing you liked the color and energy your cichlids had as that is one of my favorite things about them too... if i had to get something else i would try and get some rainbow fish they look similar in alot of ways and some have AMAZING color to them.... and they wont destroy any fins... but thats just what i would do, then again i would also get a bigger tank :P lol

nice fish very oddball.... i dont even know what they are lol.. i would guess the first is one of those "bushfish" and maybe ropefish? very cool none the less.... how do you like the bare bottom tanks? i have thought about trying it...
