  1. the vampire tetras caught my eye during my last visit to pisces but right now I don't have the room
  2. You have to be careful if you dig them. Some species of earth worms are poisonous, however I don't know if those dangerous species live in canada :s
  3. Thanks for the advice. The only difference is that I had a heater and air bubbles. I also had some snails living with them. Can the snails eat baby shrimp?
  4. has any of your fish passed away under suspicious circumstances?
  5. I shouldn't be posting here because I keep my cherry shrimp with fish :P my substrate is white sand, and the shrimp usually hang out on the rocks and drift wood of the tank. However, I would like to breed them and I have no clue how to do it. One time I tried to separate shrimp on a small 10 gallon tank. After months, nothing happened. No babies How can you guys breed them? my females are big and bright red, almost 2 year old, and never have produced a baby
  6. Are they beating each other? The ones I got are very aggressive. I searched for some info on the internet, and apparently before they breed, the female and male fight.
  7. To prevent your water from getting green, you just need an uv light filter. To keep it clean from debris any mechanical filtration will do. Are you planning to keep fish on it? The biggest problem in my pond is the large leafs of trees constantly falling on it and getting stuck on my filters input
  8. I don't think Gars are illegal in Canada. To own one you just need a massive fish tank or a tropical pond By the way, how much were they?
  9. they say the best cure for ick is to increase your water temperature as much as your fish can handle. What kind of fish do you have?
  10. I have two 230 gallons on my living room. I was also scared about the weight. I just built a couple columns with 4X4 posts on the basement to support the floor. So far so good, it has been like that for 2 years with no issues. As other people said, I don't think 80 gallons is a big deal. Any average house should be able to handle it.
  11. snake heads have a lot of personality, and they are not shy at all, which makes them cool display fish
  12. Isn't it possible to make all kind of glow in the dark critters by manipulating them genetically? I think I saw in the past everything from glowing flies to glowing cats
  13. I had a few in the past, then they broke into smaller parts and eventually vanished. Now they are nowhere to be found in my fish tanks.
  14. It could also be a bacteria colony on left over food.

    Hello

I keep some big tanks, and they are never big enough
  16. All my tanks are white sand substrate, and I have amazon swords, vallisnerias gigantea and water lettuce.
  17. Remember there are always casualties in the hobby don't let this discourage you. Always do your research, test your water, quarantine your new fish, and aim to under stock your tanks. Never get into the rush of overstocking. Even when everything is perfect, some fish cannot make it If you are a beginner, start by the sturdiest species. They won't disappoint you and will give you the experience you need :P Good luck.
  18. All living things come to an end It is impossible to cheat death :P
  19. Most likely it was an ammonia spike. Neons are less sturdy than the shrimp and the other fish. A 25% water change and adding some new bacteria will be necessary.
  20. I know some people leave rocks on water near a well illuminated window, so they grow algae, then these rocks are moved to the tank with the loach, so it can feed on the algae. I guess you can develop a good rotation system to keep growing algae all the time.
  21. pictures? maybe it is an anchor worm. They look like little pieces of flesh coming out of your fish. something like this:
  22. Cherry shrimp and endlers are sturdy. I had them for a long time in a little 10 gallon planted tank, with a small heater and air bubbles. There was no filter but I dropped in the substrate some biomax media and the liquid from it near the air bubbles. A small coral life lamp did a great job keeping my plants healthy plus 2 times a week 25% water changes. It was a cute little tank, but when I got my 230 gallon for discus, I transferred all the fish and shrimp in there.
  23. I have two golden algae eaters that look like your fish but golden, here is a pic of the net of exactly how my fish look and here one that looks like your fish So, T-man got it right :P
  24. No, ick is just little white spots on the body. This is a big ulcer.
  25. It looks like an injure or maybe flesh eating bacteria, and you will need to use some form of antibiotic so it doesn't develop an infection. You should go to your nearest fish store and look for some medication, you will need to add aquarium salts, do regular water changes, and also be aware that the medication can unbalance the biological filter in your tank.
