  1. Or get a custom one from concept aquatics. You can even get only 3 sides in low iron glass
  2. Outside overflow box might look something like this... but if concept does it then it'll look way cleaner than what I did If you go with something like this and large diameter bulkheads you won't need two boxes.
  3. The only issue I see with the corner overflow as it is in the diagram is that it is going to be a huge pain in the butt to clean out when the time comes. One more option is an internal overflow box that sits near the top of the tank and could go coast-to-coast if you want. The box is shallow so it is pretty easy to clean and will not as much tank space as the corner.
  4. This thread just keeps coming back from the dead.
  5. Yeah well, my planted tank was a lot of work trimming HC... Not that I'd plant HC in a pond... with Amazonia bottom.
  6. That's so funny Ron. After staring at my cousin's pondS for so long on facebook, I want to build a pond and stream out back too! It's probably more work than grass to maintain :P but so relaxing when you get to enjoy. The only thing I'm a little worried about is resale if I should want to sell my house. What is your view?
  7. You could go middle of the road and add one fish then the other a week later?
  8. I'd give it another couple weeks to really settle in, then add one fish then wait a week or two then add the other. It sounds like your tank is okay, but I'm a chicken
  9. From the reading that I've done, it can be spread via water column, poo, moults and cannibalisation of infected shrimp. Cleaning up and water changes are good ideas. It makes sense that the Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) treatment helps because it would help kill bacteria in the water, poo and anything else it contacts.
  10. It is very likely bacterial infection. Most of the time if they are infected they are pretty much gonners but babies and juvies don't seem to get it. Best would be to Qt the guys that are already milky and quickly remove dead bodies. Drop your temps down to 21C, even 20C, over a a couple days. Lower temps are less condusive to bacterial growth. Also, if you can drop your pH to 6 or 6.5 by either adding more IAL or more CO2. Either way, do the change gradually so that your livestock can adjust slowly. Also there are reports H2O2 treatment being successful in treating bacterial infection, but I'm not entirely convinced.
  11. Also play sand will increase your tds over time... if you aren't raising soft water critters it doesn't matter much.
  12. Second vote for CO2 into the power head intake. I get 100% diffusion with that method.
  13. If you are from Calgary... I'm going collecting today near Prince's Island Park lunch-ish today. Send me a message if you wanna come
  14. Those are all really great looking!
  15. These guys are amazing. I so wish I was out east and could see these guys in person at the Shrimp Fever store. http://www.shrimpfever.com/shop/caridina-shrimp-only/black-zebra-pinto-shrimp/
  16. Good luck with the current setup... I did that for a while and gave up on it and went with an overflow box. If you are already thinking about durso... I suggest that you also look at the herbie. In the end I went with the herbie with a coast-to-coast overflow box and I'm very happy with it. It is very easy to tune and pretty hard to mess up. http://gmacreef.com/herbie-overflow-reef-tank-plumbing-method-basics/ Check it out Edit: also lookup Beananimal overflow. It is similar to the Herbie style
  17. Lookin' good I'd love to see some larger rocks and/or drift wood for a more dynamic scape. What do you think?
  18. I have some Hc growing under fugerays in a 10G and that is without CO2 or Metricide/Excel. Decent, it think the blue LEDs on the fugeray helps.
  19. They probably both flow just fine, I'm willing to bet you'll have something similar when you separated them. If they aren't built exactly the same and set to the same height in the tank you are going to have differences. Especially in the in-tank portion; if they aren't exactly the same, the lower one will probably be running full syphon and the taller one doing... Nothing. If they are very close but not same I can see the taller one sometimes getting some action. So what was your goal with the dual? Was it redundancy, which you lose with it being T'd together, or for even flow or something else completely?
  20. pictures. Pictures. PICTURES. PICTUUUUURES!
  21. Definitely post back here or on there for new terms.
  22. Found alder trees but no cones along the river near Prince's Island. The city must have planted all male trees. On a slightly different note, I also found some oak trees by the pathway near Prince's Island. I'll probably collect some leaves when it dries up a bit here.
