  4. I have been battling BGA as well blackouts nevered worked for me either.I have increased dosing of N as well as using excel. You can spot dose some of the worst areas with H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide) 3% but be warned it can destroy some plants. 1) turn off all filters so there is no water movement 2) spot dose infected areas I use 20ml in my 75g 3) let BGA bubble way for 20min.( very satisfing to watch LOL ) 4) do 50% WC clean off as much as you can and clean filters This did destroy my hornwort but didn't harm the java fern & moss, melon swords amazon swords hygro or jungle vals. All fish and shrimp came through without problems. BGA never goes away its always present in our tanks and just waiting for the right conditions to flourish. Dosing of N and excel keeps mine in check. FLY
  5. Looking at starting a colony of Multis and was wondering what would be a good starting number in a 20 gallon. 24" x 12" x 16". thanks FLY
  6. Sounds like your set up will serve you well I know plumbing in a Hydor ETH can be a real pain with the Fluvals. My I suggest some small hose clamps at the connections at $.25 per clamp its cheap insurance solved all of my leaks after a afternoon of messing around with mine and a 405. FLY

  11. Due to a Camallanus outbreak I'm in the process of restocking my very empty 75g was wondering what type of regiment other AA members use in their QT tanks. I have picked up some more neons from a lfs and already treated twice with Lev ( yes they passed worms ) all survived treatment and are doing fine in the 10g QT tank now I was wondering if a round of paraguard would be in order have used it in the past with sick fish with good results.Am I going over board with treatment and QT? FLY

  16. So just finishing up treatment with Levamisole lost alot of stock before i found the Lev, and now my plants are really suffering and algea is thriving LOL from the lose of all the nutreints supplied by the fish and all of the 50% water changes ( nitrates at 0 ) I was looking for a temp.fix until I can bring bio-load back up(have fish in QT ). set up is 75 gallon flourite red 2 x T5HO = 108 watts plants include melon sword amazon sword dwarf amazon sword java fern jungle val horn wort hygro 6 Kuhli loachs 6 amano shrimp 2 bristtle nose 3 neons All other stock wiped out or euthanized because of Camallanus worms any thoughts or ideas thanks FLY FLY
  17. Spotted a 45 pint dehumidifier while at Princess Auto $199.99 brand Haier might come in handy for some of your fish rooms. Fly
  18. Your right this does seem to be a taboo subject when mentioned in lfs you either get a puzzled look or a list of possiblities some of them make me question the reliablity of their knowledge on the subject or down right misinformation. i"ve heard "its the food you are feeding them causing the red things to stick out of their rear ends brine shrimp and blood worms are red and some fish food has red dye to enhance color" give me a break.I've also had some try to sell me loads of differnet meds costing $ which don't work when questioned they usually respond with "have you tried them yet". Your right Jayba internet forms should be first line of defence and approach this subject with some knowledge on the subject.Buyer beware also applies FLY
  19. Ok i've begun treatment with Lev on my tank for this pest,I was wondering if this thing is more common than people seem to think.I know since this outbreak I,ve noticed it in more and more tanks including lfs.Is it possible that alot of the infections we comonly see are secondary infections caused by our fish having weakened immune systems from these worms. This might explain why some fish just don't respond to the treatments or quickly pick up something else. I have notice a lot of lfs use a central filtration system for thier tanks so if one tank or one fish shipment is infected all will be,I know it wouldn,t be economical for stores to QT fish for the 8-12 weeks it takes for these worm to show them selves so it would be up to the hobbist to QT all fish( I will be treating all future stock as infected and treat with Lev from now on) and why has'nt any one of the companys come out with a medication that is effective for control of these. FLY
  20. Its friday night and here I sit laughing at what I just did opening a plain evelope and dumping out some small baggies of a strange white powder all neatly measured out into 5g amounts ( my Levamisole arrived today ) following Jayba reconmidation on dosing I dumped out 1 baggy on a mirror and started to split it in to five little piles with a razor blade I can only imagine what my neibours would think if they could see me LOL one pile into the tank others wrapped neatly in tin foil. I should be down camping at Racehouse Creek sitting around the camp fire and telling lies with friends and planning our fishing for the next day but no here I am baby sitting sick fish. Oh well see how fish make out then hit the moutains next week i hope. FLY
  21. I have several Kuhli in with my Amanos never experinced any problems wood & flower shrimp are much larger than the tiny Amanos
  22. LOL the only way I can see them is with a pair reading glasses.I know i picked this up from fish purchased at a local lfs that i didn't quarentine properly lesson learned. But since this I have noticed more tanks also have this worms I think most people don't notice. FLY
  23. Jayba thanks for the link interesting read
  24. Hi All Looking for some pointers or advice on treating my tanks for this horrible red demon.I have been using some Fenbendazole liquid i obtained from my vet it has taken care of approx. 90% of the worms but after two complete 3 weeks treatments worms still appear to be hanging out of some fish.So I have ordered some Levamisloe HCI from canadian aquatics, and would like to begin treatment ASAP but should i make sure all previous medication has been removed?( water changes charcoal etc.) As for fenben not hurting snails look out it effectively killed all pond and MTS snails but ramshorn survived?? thanks FLY
  25. Hi All yep i'm new here decided to sign up, this site has been very helpful with my reintrodution to fish keeping after beeing away for over fourteen years. All of the new gadgets and info has made this a very interesting hobby again even with all the pitfalls that go with.I had smaller tanks in the past but wanted something bigger and planted so I built my self a stand and picked up a 75g . i haven't decided which direction to move in so have stuck with a community tank for now that is med. planted.
