Well if it's an obstruction then starve her for a few days and it might clear on its own. Then try feeding a skinned boiled pea. See if that helps, it should clear up if it's a blockage. Make sure to add some aquarium salt. If it doesn't clear up within a week and you think it is bacterial then you will need some good, strong brand of antibiotics for this such as Furan 2.

If it is swim bladder and it looks like it to me... Treatment Do not feed for 3 days, then feed skinned peas Increase water temp to 80 Lower the water level to make it easier to reach the surface Hand feed during treatment, if needed Use broad spectrum antibiotic if indicated Good luck.

I too use NLS but for fry from non mouth brooders I always hatched shrimp because they are usually much smaller then mouth brooders.

So my understanding of bloat is from too much protein in cichlid diets not from to much veggies. My question is would adding duckweed to my tank in anyway contribute to bloat? Or would it be a good idea to have this as a part of their diets? Right now I feed NLS of course but was thinking of trying duckweed + smaller amounts of ND. Also would duckweed still spread in a cichlid tank or would they eat it faster then it could grow?

I recently did this. I added in a filter system in my basement ran a drip line to my tank on the main floor of my house and an overflow to the basement floor drain. I can say it was the best thing I ever did. As for water I change 100 gallons a week this way and I think it ended up being less then $100 a year based on my cities water prices. If your doing weekly water changes any ways the costs of water will be the same with a drip that does it for you.

Also once my ammonia comes back down to zero could I just take my Fluval 405 off my 80g tank and add it to the sump system below and maybe move my fish right away? I only have about 20 fish if that so the bioload on the new tank won't be to much.

So I have been trying to cycle a 280g with about 90g sump tank for about 2 weeks now. This is the first time I have ever attempted a "FISH LESS CYCLE". I have been keeping the ammonia up between 2 - 4 ppm using 100% pure ammonia. I had taken my filter from my other tank and squeezed the juices out as well as pulled some of the bio out and added it to the new tank. Today I checked my ammonia and it's still sitting around 2.0ppm but my Nitrites read 0ppm and my Nitrate reads 5.0ppm. Am I on the right track or is something screwy since I don't see any Nitrites?
