  1. You could try a subwassertang/pelia carpet.
  2. Got outbid on a bunch of stuff and doubles of stuff for not paying attention to what I already had won bids on. How do you keep a straight mind when running like a chicken with its head cut off... Oh yeah I got rid of a bunch of plants. Good times and already looking forward to the next one.
  3. Stop teasing me.... I'm hoping to drop off a bunch of plants before heading to work.
  4. I might have to abandon my volunteer position as well as my lots... Arborgeddon lingers on for me I'm a climbing arborist. Can anyone in the Nw take my lots there for me or I can also bring them the morning and then have someone bid on stuff for me lol. Ill give you a list of plants I don't need and go from there I can't let fishclublady take my lead in hap points muhahaha.
  5. Always a good time at aquaholics anonymous, I'm glad the monthly meet up is back from summer break as I am sure more then a few have suffered from fishclub withdrawal haha. Looking forward to meeting another planted tank enthusiast your work looks impressive.
  6. I didn't think so because of what happens when you put a computer cleaning air can upside down but thought I would ask anyway. Thanks for the tips.

    Inline Heater

My Hydor crapped out in less then a year on a 65gal tank so I went back to a submersible type. Look at what the other guys are doing with dual filters, if your filter dies so does your heat. If I ever find my receipt and replace the inline I will strongly consider adding a secondary filter as a precaution.
  8. I can't seem to fit my 5 lb tank under my cabinet vertically and was wondering if it is safe to mount it horizontally. I have a baby so the tank needs to be on lock down wherever it goes.
  9. Welcome, hope you enjoy the experience and connect with local hobbyists.
  10. Quick grow sells 350g containers for about $6-8 and I get dtpa chelated iron from local garden shops for $20. Quick grow also sells t5ho lights for around $12ea. CK next time I'm in your neck of the woods I might just come bug you for some KNO3 and see what you recommend for iron.
  11. I messed up on my order because it was kind of done in a rush, they would have made it rimless and polished the top edges had I specified that. Either way I am happy with the results and so are the shrimp. Really it was just a ploy to cleanse the old tank of clown puke
  12. Recharge centre does swap as well, I would say its worth the swap because then you never have to worry about recertifying the cylinder. I believe they do a $25 fill if you leave the tank with them and 30-35$ for a tank swap. Time is money I prefer to pay more rather then wait ha-ha like Norm at Pisces said he would make a fortune off of me if he could sell patience in a bottle.
  13. That's it I'm going to have convert my bathtub into an aquatic plant grow op to catch up.

    Hey

Heya buddy welcome to the forum, hope you enjoy the forum experience. Definitely read through the threads on the planted section of the forum they really enhance the experience of having a freshwater planted aquarium. If you guys ever need a fix or a new bomb proof tank pm this guy, they're on the NE/SE fish store loop. If we encourage them to become hi tech planted tank specialists we might acquire another local source for more plants, trinkets, equipment and gadgets aka fish people toys.
  15. So my cheap 10gallon shrimp tank sprung a leak that I had to fix right away, options were buy the same garbage again or change to a different size of tank. Well changing the size was a problem due to the fact that I just invested in equipment specifically for the dimensions of the original tank. Then I thought why not try custom, I called concept aquarium here in Calgary and I was really surprised that the cost was very reasonable. In the end I ordered a 20x14x14 tank because my cabinet would allow for the extra two inches of width. $15crap vs. $100ADA smaller tank vs. $35 custom tank with 5mil glass and of course an extra 6.9 gallons! Of course I decided to upgrade to starfire glass front, black silicone and black vinyl background installed for an additional $15. I was thoroughly impressed with the service at Concept Aquarium and would highly recommend it to any hobbyists out there. They had the tank ready to go the next day! You get what you pay for and honestly the difference in cost is far outweighed by the quality of the product.
  16. I'm pretty sure I saw some at riverfront before, I know that both riverfront and tanks a lot had knight gobies earlier this year.
  17. Trumpet snails and plant roots will help oxygenate the plant substrate. From my limited experience the potting mix does wonders for plant growth especially rooting plants, I also found that plants hold better in the substrate and in the early rooting stages you have little to no uprooting and dislodging issues when using soilless media. Yes its technically soilless media because actual soil is a conglomeration of sand silt and clay such as what you find in your garden. The ''dirt/potting mix'' is mostly comprised of peat which is not soil. Although the potting mix is great for growing plants and may also benefit the discus by leaching tannins into the water. Be aware that if you ever plan to redecorate and uproot plants your tank will be a cloudy muddy mess for a day or two. After the water clears you will find that a lot of the plant media will have deposited on top of the cap substrate. I like both substrate methods for growing plants, one major benefit of the potting media is that I never dose nitrate in that tank and planting seems less tedious. I like the option of being able to change things around without making a huge mess of the tank therefore I prefer not using potting media despite the many benefits.
  18. Oscars? If I had a big tank I'd get a pair of oscars.
  19. Welcome to the forum, pm me if you want plants to try out, I see you have anacharis growing in there which prefers cooler temps so I would just try anything and if it dosent work try something else.
  20. I just ordered finnex lights from amazon.ca. The price was reasonable, shipment arrived ahead of expected time and the selection of sizes and models was also impressive. Got a 20" planed plus for the shrimp tank and pearling was noticeable the following day Got a 30" RayII to replace the modular aqueon led that came with the tank and complement the fluval led fixture. I wish I had dual rayII's live/pay and learn Differences noted between the lights are the intensity, the RayII is more suited for high light and the planted plus is more of a medium light. If you compare the lights of both types of the same size on amazon.ca you will see that they give a count of how many diodes each light has. I am pleased with both lights as they accomplish their intended purposes better than expected and the price was very reasonable when comparing other similar products from different manufacturers.
  21. Looking forward to seeing the sun change angles to see if my swords send runners again, sunlight hits the tank just right in fall and winter. This will give me enough time to work on hap sheet filling as well... Better get your green thumb polished because this newbie is going to catch up fast On a side note it was a shame to toss out a kitty litter bucket worth of stem plant trimmings but they had to go. The top of the tanks had 2-5 inches worth of plant matter at the top blocking all of the light.

    Greetings

Nice work on the tank, it looks wonderful.
  23. Next meeting is the 2nd Tuesday in September. Tues Sept 09 I'm new to the CAS and AA but it looks like both have many planted tank enthusiasts.
  24. I wish the local lfs were more keen on taking plants more often. Pisces has taken a few bunches for store credit though.
  25. If you feel like driving up to NW YYC then I have a bunch of free cuttings for you, looks like fishclub girl wants to offload some of her extras on me so ill have to make space. Work has been absolutely nuts lately and tree trimming has taken precedence over tank trimming haha.
