  1. Welcome - FYI that's a Rena filstar filter- I have three of them (easy to maintain)...
  2. ADA and Fluval. I also like Flourite. I won't ever use aquarium gravel again....
  3. Nah, compared to some members I've got small tanks. My dream would be something over 65 g but not more than 125 g. I took your advice and put the lighting up to 60% for 10 hours.
  4. Once my 45-P cycles and I transfer the Celestial Pearl Danios then I will play with the lighting on the 60-P. When it's all settled then I'll be looking for a betta. Cabomba is the one plant I can't grow. I might try it again in a low tech environment. Right now I have tiger lotus, crypts, Hydrocotyle cf. tripartita, Ludwigia, and staurogene (that I'll probably lose).
  5. I'm using a shorter light period on these low tech tanks mainly to avoid algae. I'm using Finnex 24/7 LEDs on my other two ADA 75-P with CO2. Its quite nice to view the tanks when I want. When I used Fluval LEDs I could hear the fish splashing when it was lights out. I think in going to try the myriophillum - it sounds like a nice background plant for my bigger tanks.
  6. Sounds like a great project. What have you programmed your lights to? I have the same fixture on a 60P ADA low tech tank and use the warm day button for about 6-7 hours.
  7. Check this youtube out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tqy9jBDGsk0
  8. I wonder if it was the bamboo plants once they were disturbed. Did you keep them emersed?
  9. You could probably google it but I think there's one called BCAquaria
  10. Isn't there a rinse agent in the dishwasher?
  11. So I've had several male bettas and they haven't been lasting very long. The longest I was able to keep a betta (from the Market Mall pet store) was about 1-1/2 years max. That tank was low tech. My other bettas all lived in 5 or 10 gallon planted tanks with pressurized CO2 and had short lives. These bettas were the fancy ones and the common type. At first I thought maybe breeding and genetics played into it. Now I'm wondering if it was because of the CO2. Any suggestions?
  12. Welcome to Calgary Benny - best off luck in your Canadian aquatic adventures!
  13. Are you dosing Seachem Excel in lieu of CO2? I use diluted Metricide 14 that I picked up from a NE Safety store.
  14. Nice job cleaning up your equipment. Looks great!
  15. I seem to be having luck with my two Rena XP M. It's easy to disconnect and clean.
  16. Doesn't everyone have a 10 g stashed away... Lol
  17. I have a specific day and do 30% on some tanks but 50% on others. HOB filters cleaned weekly and canister filters monthly.
  18. Can I add that Fluval stratum for planted or shrimps is nice too?
  19. Petland advertised a deal earlier - bring in a broken filter and leave with an AC110
  20. I remember seeing something on Facebook - only it was for Eastern Canada - it included red eared turtles too....
  21. Just finished a WC and cleaned my Rena XP2 canister filter. I greased the seal with some Fluval lubricant but am wondering what do you use? Can I use Vaseline petroleum jelly? Thanks...
