  1. I am currently keeping smaller Fronts with White Calvus, Goldhead Compressiceps and some Multis. All are Juvis and will soon be going into a much larger tank. As for now, everyone gets along quite well and until something goes wrong they will stay with each other. Some may disagree but one thing I have to say on that is "what works for me may not work for you and just because it works for you doesn't necessarily mean it will work for me". No disrespect intended, this is just the way it is. Stacey
  2. Agreed Frank, I use it in all of my tanks with rock work. Stacey
  3. Information for the upcoming 2008 ACE/CAOAC Show and Convention at the Sands Hotel on Fort Road May 17-19 can be found via: http://www.fish-club.org/index.php Stacey
  4. Next one is scheduled during the last day of the 2008 ACE/CAOAC Show and Convention at the Sands Hotel on Fort Road May 17-19. Hope to see you all there. Stacey
  5. I'm Military and my wife's an RCMP Officer, how much safer could the ride be? If she changes her mind you can reach me on the cell phone number I left. Stacey
  6. Anyone bringing any Cynotilapia afra "Cobue" or know where a guy can get some good quality fry? Stacey
  7. I currently run 2 filters on my 90; one is an FX5 and would not look back or even wonder. A truly great filter IMO. Stacey
  8. I forgot once when I first moved here. Lost a boat load of nice ones.....learning experience for sure. I came from using well water in Halifax to use something I had never heard of - Prime! Pretty conversent with it now though!!!
  9. Nice shots Nelson and, like Valerie, I really like the Eye Biter Stacey
  10. Have to agree there, we went in the other night and at least 1/3 of the tanks had ich. A sad state really as they did have some nice fish but we weren't going to touch that. Big Al's Rocks! Stacey
  11. I would suggest coming to an ACE (Aquarium Club of Edmonton) meeting and while introducing yourself mention that you are interested in African Cichlids. There are quite a few people on here as well to draw information from. You could also show up at the next ACE auction where there are a number of different African Cichlid species that go up for auction. For more info on ACE: http://www.fish-club.org/index.php Stacey
  12. First and foremost is to euthanize the fish but because we keep both CA and SA Cichlids you need a freezer handy until they can be taken in the trash....way too big for the flushing method. Actually have a 10 year old female Gold Severum in the freezer right now. Stacey
  13. What are you planning to put in your tank? That is probably the biggest determining factor. I have an FX5 on a 90 gallon with a smaller canister filter; mostly to keep the total surface moving but also because there are probably too many larger South/Central Americans in there. Chances are that the FX5 is not enough but if you had planned on only a group of Cardinals or a few Angels or something then I'm sure it would be okay. Stacey
  14. Agreed Shayesmommy, I have done this numerous times in the past with 100% success. Stacey
  15. Gunther (sp) was at the meeting the other night, he breeds them. He was the one that had 4 bags of golden colored ones in the auction last weekend. Hope this helps. Stacey
  16. Hey Brad, just moved to Edmonton from Halifax and will answer your questions: 1) How do you move your fish or do you just sell them all off? I sold a lot of my fish off but only because they were easily replaced. The rest I took to a guy that runs an aquarium sales and leasing outfit that can provide a receipt and he looked after them then shipped them when I was ready and able to set up. Big thing is providing the receipt. This will come from your custom envelope. 2) How many tanks have you moved through the military? I sold most of those off too but kept 2 - 130 gallons, 1 - 40 gallon and a 25 gallon - no problem as the shipping cost comes from your core envelope 3) How much supplies did you have? mostly looking at substrate. We had a ton...literally! We moved all kinds of rock, probably about 12 boxes. They aren't supposed to do it but we called it ornamental rock and they said it was okay. This would probably depend on your driver. I hope this helps and if you have anything further please e-mail me directly at malawimaniac@shaw.ca Stacey
  17. This is one of the reasons I was called the Malawi Maniac. There are over 120 fish in this tank and over 90% of them are 4"+ and changed 50% of the water every Thursday. Check it out... http://www.eastcoastaquariumsociety.ca/for...pic.php?id=6558 Stacey Wife - Cyndie is narrator
  18. I have had those in the past from Jeff. They are beautiful but I found that their eyes were very sensitive. By this I mean that I had 5 of them and 2 of them had eye problems (beat up looking eyes). Some folks from the East Coast Aquarium Society recently ordered some and there were a couple more with the same problem. Again, they sure are beauties. Stacey
  19. Probably just someone that bought a kit on sale and dumped a bunch of fish in the same day. After a week when most of those died he probably bought a bunch more then the same a week later. He probably saw this as a never ending cycle and got out while he still had a few $'s left in his pocket. If he'd only bought a book to start Stacey
  20. There are actually 2 types at Big Al's, the $15.00 ones are listed as a north species - Burundi and the $30ish ones are Zaire blues. I am 99% sure of this. Stacey
  21. We also ordered a few times from Spencer Jack in Winnipeg while I was out east. Good quality fish and no problem, other than a West Jet error but if you get a direct flight you won't have any problem. I met him just after Christmas this year and was impressed with his fish. You can contact him at spenjack1@shaw.ca Stacey
