Major Changes In New World Cichlid Taxonomy
JORG replied to FunkSolid's topic in S/A & C/A cichlids.
Yup it's mind boggling... I remember when a Lamp was a Lamp a Cichlasoma was a Cichlasoma and a Hap was a Hap ..took the time to learn and remember all the different species and families,,Then these smartie pants asshats come in every few years and change everything...not sure what there end goal is other than make sure only commom names are used. -
I think the leopard bush fish would be ok with discus. They are calm and some what slow eaters. I had six medium size leopards in the same tank with 40 corys for over a year and never had a problem.

Yup heaters suck. They use a lot of juice and when they fail you can lose the whole tank. I only have three running now ,everything else is room temperature.

Looking To Improve My African Cichlid Tank
JORG replied to t3ch's topic in General Aquaria Discussion
I prefer the Rundle . You can get that at Burnco and it is easy to smash with a hammer to get the sizes you want. -
With metroplex you need to dose every two days for up to three weeks .With clout you usually only need to dose for 2-3 days. I think most fish stores sell clout , I always get it online in bulk.
-
For Ick and a lot of other fish problems I find clout to be the best.

Use one air pump and one heater for the entire room,

Water Hardness In Alberta Not Ideal For Rams?
JORG replied to bigbadboss101's topic in S/A & C/A cichlids.
South American exporters will often label W/C mikrogeophagus ramirezi as german blue rams. -
Where did you score your Ornatums from ? It took me a long time to find the ones I got.
-
Hope you sell some offspring if you get them to breed. I have been looking for these for a long time. Hopefully soon ..I have 5 the biggest is around 5 inches now.
-
I have 4 adults available ..1 breeding pair , 1 male and another I think is a female. They are all about 9-12 inches now. I need the tank they are in to grow out a group of Cichlasoma ornatum I got a while ago.

Tattooed Fish At Gold's Aquarium Calgary
JORG replied to SuperGuppyGirl's topic in General Aquaria Discussion
I hope they don't Jorg and I realize your attempt at humor, it's just seeing the deformities and mutilations done to fish upset me. I've joined a wonderful bunch of people who are attempting to get the sale of dyed/tattooed/mutilated (ie heart shaped parrotfish) banned for sale in Canada as their isn't much regulations (as your probably aware) concerning cruelty to fish as they are not technically considered a pet I was kidding, but seriously tattooed fish don't bother me much. I don't know I kinda place it on the same level as getting my dog tattooed except one is for ID and one is for decoration. I would never buy one as I think they are stupid looking but they have been for sale there on and off for a long time. -
With this warm weather I'm thinking the small ponds might start producing this weekend. I didn't freeze much last year so I'm down to 7 packs of frozen pond mix.. will update as the ponds start giving away free foods.

Do they have any fish with the flaming C available ? -
I obtained a group of juvenile Cichlasoma urophthalmus last summer. Here are some shots of a busy young pair. Male Pair guarding eggs female looking after wigglers pair looking after fry in sand pics of parents with fry ,I removed about half the fry while they were still wigglers to raise separate. pic of the pike that ate all the fry I left with parents

If your Cardinals are doing fine I can't think of any reason other than temperature or diet that would cause the corys a problem. I suspect you started with crappy stock. Perhaps try to get some corys from one of the board members here.

Males will get a blue face and orange body. There is not much difference on body shape , males are a bit more slender and stream lined when mature. If they are kadango's all the fins on females and fry/juvies should be a bright orange.
