tc51
Dose anyone know if anyone is breeding these guys in the Calgary area.??
dunl
I'm not sure about Calgary, but there was someone in Edmonton claiming to breed these. I was looking last year at getting some and building a 150gallon plywood tank for them, until I heard some other information. Basically, the guy stated where he bought them from, and the seller mentioned that he never, ever, ever had Zaire's in stock. They were normal, everyday Burundis. So be careful on these.....make sure you know what you are looking for, and have something in your mind to compare them to.
tc51
Thanks for the warning, dunl, I will keep an eye open when I buy, the price differance between zaire and burundis on aqua-bid is out of this world. Would love to get some local. What I have read so far tells me if buying adult, the colour morph is really obvious, but I have only seen them in pictures. Setting up a 185 gal 72x30x20, would love to breed these guys and keep them local for sale. Thanks again for your reply, dunl, Tom.

stomper
http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/fron..._collecting.php This too. I had no idea it takes 4 to 5 days to bring a Blue Zaire to the surface. Thats wild man... I want some real bad. Actually I'd be happy with just some Burundis, I need a tank. victornguyen
You got to be careful when buying Zaires as many people sell zaires that are caught on the edges of the zaire-zambia. where they could be zaires, ikola, samazi, or chaitika. When you do get zaires make sure they are kapampa. thanks Victor
stomper
There must be a reliable guy that successfully breeds them?!? Nobody in Calgary? Man, whoever does could stand to make some money for a while. If you are an experienced Frontosa keeper it may be worth it to order some. Do it man!!! rahim101
There is a guy in Calgary that has picked up a wild group from Gold Aquariums. He has 9 wild ones and one is currently holding. He goes by the handle: "Overstocked" in the cichlid forum. If all goes well, he will have some fry soon. www.cichlidforum.com Look him up, you never know. Good Luck,
malawi_luver
HOLY SH*T 2800$ for a colony of fish man i would never ever pay that much for a colony of fish... but for a tank YES!!!
rahim101
There are only 3 such colonies in Alberta that I know of: 1 in Edmonton and 2 in Calgary. Ted bought 9 from dennis and another guy bought the rest (17 fish) in all. They will make money once the breeding kicks in as the fry go for $35.00 - $40.00 USD and there are very limited number of fry available. I wish those guy the best of luck as I sure as hell would like some. Later,

skinless
hella old thread but any updates on these setups and spawns? anyone else try this? are they more difficult to breed successfully than other fronts? that is one of the reasons i have heard that contribute to the high price for proven harems.
