dunl
I would never put three different species of a genus in the same tank as breeding colonies. The males will possibly mate will any of the females....
malawi_luver
But there all beautiful :P Some of them look completey different from each other ones yellow and blue face...
Vallisneria
I agree that there is too great a possibility of crossbreeding between those species. I wouldn't risk having them breed in that tank. But i do agree they are all beautiful choices. Where do you plan on getting these fish from? dunl
You'll notice that I have a Labidochromis freibergi in my avatar. The females are grey. Labidochromis mbamba males are completely different in colour, purple with yellow topped dorsal fins. Yet put in the same tank, the grey freibergi female will spawn with both, no questions asked. I had to put a mbamba male in my freibergi tank on a timeout one time, and I noticed a female spawning, taking turns circling with each male. Trust me, they will probably crossbreed. I have three lab species....all in separate tanks.
rahim101
Pick one of the Placidochromis along with a the Protomelas Spilonotous and through in an alunacara sp. That may work!!!!
RD.
M-L ........ If you're going to be ordering WC fish from Armke's, IMO you'd be best to seriously cut back the numbers for that 48 x 18" tank, and stick to 2 unrelated species, from a different genus. WC fish aren't always easy to breed, and especially not if kept in cramped (ie; stressful) conditions.

Placidochromis phenochilus F0 (1m,2f) plus about 4 others (thin out the males...) Protomelas spilonotus Mara Rocks“Sulphurhead” 1m 1f and about 4 others (thin out the males...) dunl
To me, that's too much blue, but that is my personal preference. Maybe swap the Undus for Maleri or Rubescens, or add in a gentle mbuna like the yellow labs. That being said, it's all personal preference. RD.
I agree, go with whatever turns your crank. If it was my tank, I'd have a couple dozen yellow labs in it.
