Thanks...JS Edited January 7, 2005 by fatpuffer
Kaytania
My convicts would always dig 2 or 3 pits when they were getting ready to breed. I'm not 100% sure why they dig more than one maybe they like having the variety.
shawntraviss
Some are test pits to see if the area is same, and if its to theyre liking, after they spawn its becuase they move theyre fry

FishBrain
Im not sure what people think of this idea but i have had ich on mine before and i had a friend tell me to turn up my temp to 82 degrees for 2 weeks. Seemed to work, the spots went away and the eggs still hatched. It hasn't come back and the temp is back to about 78.
rudy
Fry should be raised at higher temps anyway. Pump the temp up to 82 and gradually salt to the water. 1 tbsp per 5 gallons. This will cure the ich.
dunl
Here's more than you ever probably wanted to know about treating ich: http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/ich.php Dunl
shawntraviss
Are you sure its not little nips? the female could be nipping him to protect the eggs, or it could be small injuries from pit digging, oh and theres always sand/fecies etc that could have just landed there, but it is ich id you try the salt and temp method before you try the meds, meds can really mess up your water properties
fatpuffer
will try the temp and salt first then...thanks!
FishManTy
I often treat ick on new fish simply by controlling the temperature. When I worked at a petstore, I found that changing them temperature often worked better than medicine, and with the use of both temp and Med's, you should be able to heal it up quickly. When I suspect ick or stress, I run a temperature from 82-84. Ick is rare in my tanks thank god, but when I do get ick, it spreads to every single clownloach I have. GRRRR. rahim101
Ich meds will not harm the eggs or prevent them from hatching. And it may be best to loose a batch of eggs rather then loosing the parents. The temp increase and salt will help if not, I would treat to be on the safe side!!!!! Remember to remove the carbon insert from your filter while treating with meds!!!!
