Knowzilla
Just woundering if a bristlenose pleco will eat blackbrush or any type of brush algae? I have a bristlenose in my 133 southamerican tank and cleans the green and brown algae really well, but wanted to put one in my 120 community tank to deal with the bristle algae. The 120 has guppys, mollys, corys, platys, swordtails and two big clown loaches. I also have a medium chinese algae eater and three simese algae eaters (small ones).and the tank is planted. catshanon
As far as I know, bristle nose pleco (BNP) won't eat brush algae. The Siamese algae eater(SAE) is a good candidate for that. I have a SAE in my 55G planted tank, and it takes care of the black brush algae. Here are 2 good links on algae and algae eaters. Wingin' It
Well...I suggest putting the BN in the tank and find out...there's nothing like trail and error...or trial and Whoo hoo! It works! LOL I think many of us are curious about whether or not the BN will eat the algae.
fishclubgirl
I love my BN but they don't seem to want to eat the black hair algae. Amecas and SAE are meant to get good for that. I do have some hair algae and my mollies do eat some of it too. Guess I should move around my SAE to get rid of it, eh!!
jewels
My WC Peruvian BN has no interest in the brushy stuff. He is always "on the hunt" as this is in with my Ameca colony that goes largely unfed.
syno321
BN have never been known to consume black/beard algae
