depending on what kind of shaking and where. If it looks like a slight flinching it could mean a contaminant in the water or parasites. Not sure about buffalo head. but it is a sign of some fish mating habits.

Is it the only Buffalo head in the tank? If not he may be trying to get the attention of a lady. If he is trying to get the attention of a female he will strut his stuff and kind of swim in front of her.

If it's just 2 out of the whole batch, it might be worth just culling them. The best help would be a few nice big WCs per week.

I'd not use the melafix for this, if you can use stresscoat for the healing properties of aloe that is in it and lifebearer for possible gill flukes. This problem sounds either parasitic or possibly gill damage from ammonia, which is likely given the length of time the tank has been set up. These fish already have strange behaviour do to their natural life style and small swim bladder. The flag motion sounds like shimming, but it is also similar to their natural behaviour. If their gill filaments have been damaged by ammonia they will scratch. In time the gills will heal and the problem will go away.

To paraphrase, Jayba, does your water conditioner remove chloramines and ammonia?
