fish_man
i was curious as to what i would use to cure it. any home remedies out there?
Tanker
Not too sure about home remedies, but I'd suggest Melafix as a store-bought solution. Can be found at Wal-Mart for about $6 for the 4oz size, which treats about 40 gallons for a week which is the suggested dose/duration. Of course, if you have a QT tank then it'll go that much longer... pretty cost effective, IMO.
neatfreak
remove new carbon first, treat 5 to 7 days

I just did a water change and added salt within 2 days there was no more popeye.
Big Red 265.
I think Melafix or Primafix is still a good idea. I have Albino Maleri and one of them seemed prone to eye problems. Primafix sure helped.
neatfreak
soon they are taking all meds off the shelf. Environmental issues. boils down to this, good water quality, maintainence, nutrition salt ,melafix[primafix]temp water treatment. if done on regular basis NO SICK FISH. there are always other issues as well hybrid genes ECT. but it is a rule of thumb that really works! -ham- -ham- -ham-
pinkeyfish
why would they take all the meds off of the shelf , I really haven't had to many problems with fish diseases but I know when something all of a sudden pops up I like having the cures
dunl
Water changes, more regular than normal, and Melafix. Should clear up in about 3-5 days.
Ellie_A
It's just a rumor so far, but if it does happen it wil be becuase of Canadian drug regulations. In Ontario you can only get very few medications at a pet store. All medications will still be available through a vet though.
HOSStile
Well Since my name is Pop Eye I figgured I should say something. I had pop eye a few times. I just did a water change and added salt within 2 days there was no more popeye. I just know you meant your fish. I bought a betta from Petsmart, anyone else notice that the water the bettas are in are aways blue..... preventive medicine or treating sick fish? Anyway after putting him in a new bowl with RO water, the next day he had case of popeye where I thought sure it would pop. I put him in a small bowl treated with melafix, a little salt and wcs every 2 days. It took over a month but he is fine now and has been for 9 months.
