HOSStile
I originally got these fish and they were labeled Copadichromis Borleyi. This we have ruled out and we think they are a protomelas of some kind. I think through investigating further that these are a gold morph of the p. taeniolatus (red empress) I will show you the pictures and I would like your thoughts before the CAS auction, on how I should label the 20 or so juvies I am considering selling. Thanks in advance.
HOSStile
Here is another shot with no flash, a little blurring because of exposure time. Edited September 15, 2005 by HOSStile

Nyasa
They are definitely Protomelas and look to me to be taeniolatus.

JHG
My male Red Empress shows similar coloration, however he's not done yet. I'm hoping to isolate him with his two ladies to see if they'll "get their groove on". They began spawning a few times but always had their party broken up by a blue or red zebra. Here's a picture of a friend's borleyi for comparison. J Edited September 17, 2005 by JHG
Vallisneria
Sorry for forgetting about your post It looks like a red empress to me
rahim101
Hi Harrod...from the first picture...the fish looks like it has the shape of C. borlyi and the color pattern of the red empress...but the second picture looks like a full red empress!!! I think maybe send a PM to "African_fever" ...he would be the best bet at id-ing the bad boy!!!!
rahim101
the kids look like pure red empress though
HOSStile
Thanks all for the input, the male has been steadily coloring up since I got him, when he was in the mood and chewed up my male nyerei he had a lot more color then. I will label the bags as red empress ??? and if people want to buy them they can.
