dunl
I started my sump formy 54 bowfront up tonight, and honestly.....it sounds like a flushing toilet - constantly. I need to do something about the noise. The overflow pipe is 2" ABS, and I'm using a Mag 12 (think that's what Rob said it was???). I think I know a possible solution, but I'm looking for opinions before I do something.....
ÐÉÅÑ
What your looking for is a Durso Standpipe. Clicky
Doc_Polit
Durso won't work with your set-up will it dunl? What about running a length of airline tubing part way down the drain pipe? You could maybe even change your plumbing configuration to include a "T" near the top of your drain line. Either would allow excess air to escape, which as you know, is creating your noise. Nothing like having a toilet flushing in your livingroom, eh?
albert_dao
Also check up Stockman standpipe.
Majestic_Aquariums
Hmm. This one could be kinda hard. The back of the tank is drilled, not the bottom. Then, the overflow is made out of PVC. Where is the noise coming from Darcy? When the water enters the overflow, or into the sump? It is a Mag
albert_dao
Oh, is it possible to insert a 90 degree elbow into the overflow hole?
Majestic_Aquariums
It actually has one already. Then, the pipe tapers up to 3" (I believe) with holes to skim the surface. I am guessing that's where the bulk of the noise is coming from? I cannot remember what Danny Zubot was running for a pump. Is a Mag 12 too large maybe? albert_dao
So you mean it's a standpipe with holes or teeth at the top? If that's the case, then the easy solution is to remove that standpipe and replace it with a Stockman.
Majestic_Aquariums
Well, yeah, it has holes. Cannot remember the thread on Canreef for the stockman-but that may the best solution. Lemme go surf a bit.
Majestic_Aquariums
Maybe check into this Darcy. http://www.canreef.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=18244
dunl
Yup,noise is comin from the top of the elbow. The Hofer looks good...just wondering how I would adapt it for this tank?

dunl
Now that I'm awake...there is lot more noise coming from the standpipe....is 2" too wide?
BT05
You might want to check this thread too: http://www.canreef.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=19054 This guy whent through alot of experimentation before fixing his so you're in for some trial and error. Some pictures of your setup might help us figure things out...
dunl
Picture of inside the tank, notice where the reflection starts.... The overflow goes through the glass to a 90 degree elbow, down straight piece of pipe, another 90 degree elbow and straight piece bringing it over the sump, another 90 degree elbow to a straight piece of pipe to bring it down into the sump.
