Fishkeeping

Here is a short list of what comes to mind.

They don't try to steal your dinner.(Dogs)

They don't mate outside your window at three in the morning.(Cats)

They don't try to sniff the crotch of every guest you have over.

They don't lick themselves.

They don't try to run away.

They don't need to be walked.

They don't eat shoes.

They don't scratch up the furniture or dropes.

I could go on but these are the most obvious. And before you label me as an animal hater I do own a dog. No cats as my kids have asthma and are allergic to them. I'm sure someone can add to this list. Mostly I find watching my fish to be very relaxing after a hard day.

God complex?

Seriously though, I think it's just interesting to sit and watch fish, see what they do. Fascinating creatures. Plus it's quite relaxing to sit and watch a nice tank, or even just hearing the sound of 5 waterfall filters running in the backround in your living room at all time.

Having stingrys come to your hand for food!

I love the interaction!

I love the calmness of watching them after work.

And I love Shopping for new fish! :D

I love the sound of water.

I love nurturing them.

I love not having to turn on the lights when I enter a room (light put off by tanks is enough)

I love showing them off.

I love learning fish personalities.

I love when they have fry.

I love fish shopping too.....

I love having a reason to go to the CAS auction! LOL!

A home of glass, a pool of water.

Amidst this world with all the clatter,

One of the things, to us that matters-

this slice of heaven in a pool of water.

that poem pretty much sums it up for me right there.

I am too often all wound up in my own world and not realize the small things. These tanks (especially my discus) make me slow down and appreciate the smaller things in life.

I have a better learned a better appreciation for our environment. There is a direct connection between the crap we dump down our sink or spray on our lawns affecting the creatures in that wetland (used to be called swamp)
