Mighty Prawn
Can you show us some tips of how to take such a nice pictures? Also, is the background really black? http://albertaaquatica.com/index.php?showtopic=1403 and http://albertaaquatica.com/index.php?showtopic=7311 I believe his backround is truly black, though he may have done some touching up in photoshop. Nothing major, just standard stuff at most I'd guess. -Hideo
Molino
Thanks everyone, glad you like the photos. The best tip I would have for photography is to visit www.aquatic-photography.com. There are a lot of great photographers there and if you post some example shots they can usually offer some great suggestions for improvement. As for the above photos the background is black because the flash is positioned above the tank near the front. That way when the photo is taken the fish is illuminated, but light doesn't reach the back of the tank, therefore it is black. I'm not really sure I always like that effect though. The shot of the Ruby Red doesn't quite look right, although the original does have a black background. Here is the original. You can see I did some minor editing, removing some spots in the water and the fish/reflection in the bottom right corner. I also increased the space to the left and above the fish because the original was framed too tightly.
