This is my male Jewel Cichlid and sorry about the focus. It is so hard to take a good picture.

I do the same thing as jvision, but I will take the fry out by opening the female mouth and dump them all out into a different tank. The fry then will eat after few days when you see the sac getting smaller and they can swim around the tank.

It is hard to tell what exactly happen by what you described. But I would suggest that make sure the light on the heater goes off when you turn down the temperature knot. If it doesn't turn off, then we know for sure is the heater.

So, how about the water? Does it require soft water like Discus? Or just normal Alberta water? thanks
