  1. wow! I guess I really under do it. I go for a week new or after treating and they look good.
  2. Thanks for the info. Just wanted to ask
  3. I dont mean to hijack this thread but isn't drop eye caused by to much protein or fat in the diet? Thats just what I had read.
  4. I would put more confidence in the digital. Most glass fish thermometers are fairly poorly made. The body heat idea may work but in reality there are some variations where you take the temp on your body. And the best place is the least sanitary and comfortable. good luck
  5. To take this toppic off track a bit again Calgary is moving over to Edmonton's system b/c it works so well, but I am unsure of when it will be finished. And I forget how Calgary treats its water.
  6. mine fishies like some places to hide and round river rocks have been a pritty safe bet in my tanks
  7. so cross back refers to the colour crossing the back of the fish; that is the colour is not just on the sides of the fish. 1.5 and 2 are hybrids. And basically the Asian price differences, excluding hybrids, is based on esthetic qualities and names to try to distinguish variants. And just like drugs you have to know and trust your source. I dont mean to be glib and I'm sure in many ways you get what you pay for, but I am trying to decide with out ego becoming a major factor.
  8. I have been looking into arows and I have some questions or want feed back on info. South Americans are largely silver or black tailed and quite plain coloured. Ausies are similar to Asians but have smaller scales and fewer colours. Asians are have 3 main colours with various sub types that greatly change the prices. what is a 1.5 Asian arow? Is it a hybrid? what does HBRTG mean why is it lower quality? Are there any quantitative or imperial means by which to rate these fish? And if so how is it done? Just saying it is AAA means nothing to me, why is it so? What are cross backs? I think I am between Ausies and Asians. What I am looking for is a really nice looking fish (I know this is subjective). I know some of this is a sensitive issue with dealers and buyers. Please don’t talk about various sources positively or negatively or compare quality between them.
  9. lovely dog, wih you two the best. I cant imagen not having my boys
  10. False fronts that’s a good idea, nice job too.
  11. you would definitely need a loop but it still isnt the best. to loop you use a T connector and make an unbroken loop of CO2 line with T connectors branching off to the CO2 bubbler. This gives the system more even pressure and if one bubbler lets out more then the other both will still work rather then only one releasing the majority of the CO2.
  12. wow that is cool, and amasing that they are so small. Mayby I am silly but I never thought of ray being that small. Logicly I know they would have to be but I just never thought of it.
  13. wow ya nice fish. Normaly I think arows are ugly but that guy makes me want one. The great pictures also help.
  14. well I guess I'll blame the lithobates they have the worst ratio of 1:1 M:F and there are just 2 of each and both girls are holding now too.
  15. I have these guys together: Labidochromis caeruleus - Electric Yellow Pseudotropheus polit Sciaenochromis fryeri - Electric Blue Cynotilapia afra (Cobue) Otopharynx lithobates I thought I would be safe from hybrids but a fresh batch of Labs sure look like they are going to be hybrids, but who did it? I cant get a good picture yet as they are really small still but they are more grey and one is dark brown? The Parents are nice bright yellow from Fairdeal.
  16. It can simply be under feeding/lack of nutrients and stress, there are other causes though but at the moment I can not recall them. Assuming your water conditions are good.
  17. buckets... I just empty small tanks into buckets move and refill. From my experience it is the easiest way and largely it doesn't even upset the tank. Ive tried moving 30g filled but in the end its way easier to just empty them my 2 cents
  18. Natures Cornerstore.... That is all...Big up henry and gillian buguls (sound it out) means dead dead dead fish and ok hard goods prices. Im super cheaop but buying good stuff once is bettern then... . . .
  19. for wood go to Elite he has some great big peaces. fish I dont really know anything much else but there are some good ideas above.
  20. I will second RD on the price thing, especially the price on fish are outrageous and quality is often questionable in my opinion.
  21. It looks "photoshoped" but I'm not really an expert on fish IDs but I do know photoshop.
  22. I would recommend sticking to One Lake per tank. My P. nyererei are quite Territorial but that may just be peculiar to me.
  23. The best place to get CO2 filled is a welding supply shop, in SW Edmonton there is one just off 51 ave and about 60th street, forget what it is called. You can get a good setup at Natures Corner, or if you dont mind waiting AquariumPlants.com has their best which is really good too. I had the AP best which sold just recently. There is also a guy on the planedtank that is supposed to make really nice regulator setups, very similar to the AP best. Ordering an empty cylinder online is way cheaper then anywhere in the city.
