  1. LOL Betta Fish mommy you touched alot of key points. Your fry aren't free swimming stage yet, the father will usually do the picking up and spitting back in the nest... You should Never take the father out until all fry are free swimming... If you have though, too late for him to be the rescue so you will have to substitute daddy figure. Like BettaFishmommy says drop the water line so that they swim backup to the nest is less... until free swimming at add one week to that then slowly add more water to the tank... 10% a week is fine... feed as soon as you notice a free swimmer!!
  2. There is a reason, the first batch had more fry, there for more competition for food source. The second batch had less fry so more food availablity. The fry actually don't eat each other.. the weak die off the strongest live usually the ones that did survive were the first to hatch. Usually they had more protein in the egg sack, this is why they are larger to begin with... the more fry the less growth, it holds true for all my batches.
  3. :welcome: As far as advice on Angel breeding, I know that Sam Chicklet has raise some awesome Angels, if the thread mentioned earlier doesn't answer some of your questions I would recommend him as another source, or post your questions on this forum.. I am certain there are other Angel breeders here as well, I just know Sam does and a great job at it as well.
  4. Thats so awesome, Betta's take a lickin but keep on ticin... glad to see he is OK !!
  5. Snails are a great choice they aren't threatening to the betta and slow... Also amano shrimp are good tank mates for betta's...
  6. No, any inactive betta is a unwell betta! Either the water perimeters were different such as PH values water too cold and shocked him, or if you forgot to dechlorinate the water. Change his water to clean water, up the temp to max 82 degrees.. add a little epson salt premix in the water first dont' just dump in the tank solid, desolve the epson salts first then add to tank... mix the salt around the tank... Wait for a few hours to see if there is any improvement.. post again if no improvement, we can go from there
  7. He looks fantastic!!!
  8. Betta's dont do well with alot of current... I wouldn't recommend it. Worse cause if your heart is set on it, try a betta for a few days keeping a close eye on him/her if the betta seems stressed or chased remove put into a vase all is good.
  9. Just keep an eye on them, sounds like bad luck with the one jumping over at the same time as the heater exploding. Betta's repair fins pretty well... you've done all you can now its just wait to see if any baterial infection arises from the tail nips...but more likely it won't Betta's are pretty tough cookies!! Glad everyone is okay!
  10. That is so awesome!! Glad it worked well.

  16. I am a betta breeder in the Edmonton area, what specifically are you looking for ? PM me, I am sure I have something your looking for.. But you can get a good idea of the selection, not all colors are shown... I have much much more! GillsNFins website site
  17. Betta's are never listless ever!! sorry Fishclubgirl your fish had an illness and never did recover properly.. prob due to internal infection to a vital organ. The mirror trick works because they are territoral does not mean they are enjoying it, only do this when a fish is healthy. You put a mirror in front of a already ill betta will only stress them more and possibly make the betta more ill. Also, NEVER decrease the temp of the water, if anything increase in case it is a parasite infection, add a little salt to her water... get a all around fish medicine, Paraguard works.. it will help with anything just in case you don't know what it is, her behavior is indicative of stress born illness. You mentioned they just received this shipment, there is obviously something wrong with this poor girl. My recommendations: Raise temp slightly - to max 82 degrees Add some epson salt - this helps the gills move oxygen through easier, as well has helps the body heal Paraguard - treats all sorts of bacterial infections to parasite infections. It's mild enough to use daily.. follow the instructions Change her water daily, clean fresh water perferred, make sure the water is fairly the same as her current temp. it might take a few days to see an improvement, if it's not too late for her. Sinking and surface breathing is a sign of a unhealthy betta...
  18. Your water look's great, but the added mineral's of the Blackwater expert might be too much, I would since you have two different spawning tanks. I would try to not add BWE to one and keep one with.. BWE, don't use R/O your PH is bang on... You don't need to lower your PH. The peat sack will do exactly what the BWE does anyways, if you read what Black Water Expert is... you will understand that it is Peat just in a concentrated liquid form. The City water already has minerals, adding more minerals with BWE plus a peat sack is too much of a good thing... IMHO This is what I would do: City water+ the temp of 79 - 80 + Peat sack + almond leave if you have+ epson salt measure to the size of your tank= leave for 4 days empty... test water... slowly introduce male to tank... Let him have the entire tank fo 2 days... lets him build a territory... introduce female after 2 days... release her on the 3 day... provided she is ready. Leave them together for up to a max of 48 hours ... *YES IT CAN BE DONE WITHOUT DEATH TO THE FEMALE* i have left females with males over 4 days without issue. Good luck!
