  1. Fair enough Jay. Sorry for the delay in replying to your pm.
  2. Oh please now..that's just crazy dude! :bang1:
  3. No, do not use the foam to compensate for an un-level stand...level it as best as possible, and try to have as much support (shims) as possible to avoid sag in your stand. Then, if you wish, you can use the foam to compensate for any slight shifting, ect. in the stand over time. Dimensional lumber-ie:2X4's for instance WILL shrink in time as they dry to the humidity levels in your home. If you have ugly shim spots in front of your tank, you can probably buy a molding from a DIY center to hide this. Hope I don't sound like a broken record, as other's have stated this as well.
  4. O.K-fair enough, administration has made a decision, that's cool. So, I see it like this. Garrett was banned for ripping off Dunl and ChloeClose on Hybrids. (not to mention the issues with his Mom) So, can members suggest the next banning, cause quite frankly, one member is coming to mind for me. Perhaps just a miss communication, but it has been months. So fine, my loss, but it may help other members from getting the same happening to them. I have tried to deal with this via pm, and e-mail without any success-so perhaps bringing it to light on a relevant thread is the next best option? After all, that's what this is all about right?
  5. Well, I am not going to comment on whether or not Rahim should have been banned; I have no idea of the details. I don't know him, or delt with him, but I will say this about him. Prior to the Fall auction in Calgary, I had posted on a thread that I would be willing to help out if needed. Rahim did not. However, I got sidetracked and never offered to help once I got there. Rahim busted his @$$ all day long-never posting publically that he would, as well as some other members here. It has been bugging me for some time, and just wanted to give a little credit where it was due. Should the day come that I get banned, I would like to think no one on here or anywhere else would make fun of things like caves, yeah, I was in on that too-sorry! Just my two cents
  6. Well, I don't think it can be done-what kind of attachments did it have? Mostlikely, it needs to be submersed in water for cooling purposes.
  7. Well, I'd do it..If you are worried though, I can maybe make up a new one piece frame to go on top of the tank, to replace the existing one. But that's me-your choice. I have seen a fair few do it w/45 gal. (48"X12") without problems.
  8. Hmm. yeah, I think we were talking about different stuff! I kinda thought you wanted styrofoam for under the tank, ect.
  9. Well, they may not be the smartest of staff, but at least they all seem consistant! Go back there if you wish, (Home Depot) and go down the insulation isle. You will guaranteed see styrofoam there-both open and closed cell, in a variety of sizes. (Pink, and white) Great place as long as you don't want help-I better not get started on that topic!
  10. There should be some @ one of the Home centers?? It is stocked at all the ones I am aware of, usually in 2'X8', or 4'X8' sheets. Doesn't surprise me Home Depot staff don't know what it is :bang1: Maybe check w/Totem?
  11. WOW! I was kinda wondering what the results would be here-never happened to me before. But really, I never have had to use heaters much. (you would think the power bill would thank me, but the lights use more power than any heater anyways) Good Idea RD!
  12. I donno about this-I have owned alot of heaters-but none (or very few) got used-trying to get rid of the heat from the lighting is a bigger prob for me... I would think that w/ a good glass lid, and a Titanium (Ebos are good too) it is pretty safe. I regulated an incubator temp. with a titanium Won Bros. aquarium heater to a range of +-4 deg. f.-pretty accurate IMO. (this was the air temp range, not the water it was in..) But watch the external control-they can get adjusted a little too easy with a bump or Kids, etc. :grr:
  13. Wow! Cold down there? I doubt it will crack-but I wouldn't try to warm it up too quickly-that's when it would break IMO. I have moved tanks in the back of my truck @ -30, Not sure if windchill factors into that-being there's no moisture; but cold none the less-no probs. When it's brought in, or course it frosts up though..
  14. Just a thought, I would guess it's just set there temp. but I would make sure you put that styrofoam under the entire tank, this could well give you more prob. than having the sides of the glass sitting on the bottom. Looks good though!
  15. Just a thought, but I would go down to Burbank and check along the river if I was you Neatfreak. After the flooding this summer, there may be some good stuff just north of the Blindman?? When I was there earlier this year, the water had washed up all kinds of trees. But you never know, there may be good stuff @ Grandma's house too!
  16. Storm Drain? Did I miss something? Yeah, you are right, just need a large enough sump to support the overflow of the tank should a power failure occur (and there's enough of them here in the winter..)
  17. Well-I backed out of the Tenecor deal...Will cost a few bucks, but it wasn't lining up the right way on this end of things. Theo in Van. busted his @$$ to get the deals done-just couldn't swing it right now-Dec. around the corner and all. Man, I wonder if this thing will ever happen? :grr: Anyways, back to the drawing board. Now, not that many would believe me after changing my plans so many times, I will order glass-but stretch it to 10'-will make for 375 gal..not starfire though. Have to modify the drawing slightly. Hopefully order the tank in Jan.
  18. Hey Connie-pretty cool eh? Good luck with it, but I wouldn't anticipate any surviviors. If you want a few pointers from someone that knows NOTHING lemme know. I tried raising a few clutches just as more an experiment than anything. Had some survive to 3 weeks, and well into their 2nd stage of development-probably more good luck than management. I do recall reading than ONE person in the world (scientist if I recall) successfully reared them-but I think that's all that was on record..
  19. As far as I have seen, most of the Wal-marts have mostly the same in-stock stuff-it will be in a box on the shelf, for you to assemble, but I know in Red Deer they are $80 as well. Good luck!
  20. Thanks for the plug Darcy! I actually JUST sold a stand like what you are looking for...sorry, out of stock. P.M me if you wish though-but please keep in mind it may take a few weeks-like into the New Year for custom. Sorry! EDIT-meant to mention that if you want a few pointers on building your own, I will happily do that as well!
  21. Hang in there Darcy, I think the lawnmower will be fine-mine was, and I added him after 4 weeks. I also know the Capt. and I really don't think he was trying to be nasty with ya, he's a cool dude too. But I know what you mean, sometimes it's hard not to get you hairs ruffled a little, and good luck w/the stocking. Take care. Rob
  22. Wow! He is huge for sure-neat video. He chowed that smelt like no one's buisness!
