  1. I could not get the page to appear and/or function properly with Internet Explorer 8. I just changed to Firefox 3.5 and all is well. Just one more reason not to use IE.
  2. Well said, RD! I found, too, when I had my all-male tank that the addition or loss of even a single fish would change the dynamic in the tank and often start a "turf war". All-male tanks really are a juggling act (sometimes with one hand, blindfolded, standing on one foot, etc) -roll-
  3. Just my 2 cents... I think that you are asking for trouble. I have lost several plecos, including bristlenose, to cichlids (yes....I am a bugger for punishment). 2 of the plecos were at least the same size as my cichlids. One had the flesh plucked from it's skeleton and the other was stressed to jumping out of a very small hole at the back of the tank and dried up on my carpet. Not something that I, personally, would try again. Good luck whatever you decide.
  4. Still lurking and contemplating the "dark side".
  5. It might not be a bad idea to shim the stand in the meantime. Alot can happen in a year.
  6. Pick up a Magnum HOT 250 filter and run it full time with the micron sleeve for a few weeks. Pick up an extra so that you always have one ready to change over. Guaranteed to clean things up in no time. Good luck!
  7. Great photos again, Patrick.
  8. If you are looking in regard to a DIY background, you can go with a much easier option. Just carve the styro and paint it with tinted Drylok. Works like a charm and does not melt the styro or fill in details.
  9. Nice Fronts you lucky bas......I mean.......great looking tank, Ryan!
  10. Sweet tank, Dustin! Thanks for the great pics and updates. Bring on the 'wet pets'.
  11. Well....I just scored a reef ready 180 gallon with a cracked rear pane for free. Now I just have to decide whether I simply replace the broken pane or tear it down and use the front pane for a DIY plywood & glass. Things that make you go hmmmm. :shifty:
  12. It's coming along nicely Dustin. Keep the progress pics coming.
  13. Generally Weld-On 4 or Weld-On 16 are used. 4 is watery and seals using capillary action. Meanwhile, 16 is thicker and more like silicone in consistency. In the absence of Weld-On 4, many tank builders use methylene chloride.
  14. Is this cell cast or regular FF?
  15. Acrylic prices are nuts right now! I called a place in Calgary (Industrial Plastics, I think) and asked for a quote for a 72" x 18" piece of cell cast acrylic. I was told that it would cost me $485 Definitely not in my price range.
  16. Firestorm and I got our Afras from a breeder in the Kamloops, BC area. I plan to raise fry but I have only had 1 female holding and she lost the clutch just recently. I will keep my eyes open for more OR I can put you in touch with the breeder. He will ship to you via Greyhound for a very reasonable rate. I have received fish from him via Greyhound before with no problems whatsoever.
  17. Yellow Labs and Afra "Blue Reef" (aka White Top Hara) make a nice combo in a 50. That's exactly what I have at present. Really nice color contrast. Be very picky when selecting your Labs or you will be disappointed when they mature.
  18. Nice fish and excellent photography Taylor.
  19. Home Hardware stores can also bring in Quikrete liquid pigments....alot easier to control amount of coloring.
