  1. i have a new 1500 if the impeller is the same??
  2. when is the last time you heard of a tank going through the floor? i work in home structure and houses can support a mindboggaling amount of weight. following the good advice of other members and setting your tank across the beams and near walls is good insurance. i saw a 450 gal tank on the main floor of a 50 year old house with no problems, i myself wouldent try that but last i heard it was still there, on the main floor
  3. dont we all know it! if you are planing to keep these tanks around for a while i would put in the effort and drill and plumb them all, its not as hard as a lot of people think, and the end result is DEFINITLY worth it
  4. well said slough shark, VERRY responsible thinking. i've been reserching them on many sites and its the same everywhere, mass casualties in shipping, and keeping of them. if your going to keep them, do your homework first
  5. you dont dig the local fish store scene in calgary? have you been to them all? as an edmontonian i frequently make the trip just for the stores there. i find stores like riverfront, golds, pices and a few others to have verry good stock and reasonable prices. what are you looking for that you cant find?
  6. deppends on what store is asking that. one big box store is notorious for having VERRY high prices. try and find that fish in 3 lfs's and use the middle one. if your asking too much you will know when thiers no interest, or check the archives. hope that helps
  7. be carefull with planet inverts, check bcaquaria thread on them. verry high shipping casulty rate too. would be VERRY cool to try em out anyways

    Tanks

keep watching the but & sell section, you'll find a MUCH better deal in there
  9. some arro's are fairly reasonable, only the red's and crossbacks go for crazy money
  10. I just lost about 700 dollars of salt water fish and corals when the temperature in my salt system hit over 92 F. I live on the third floor and I do have fans, AC, and floating bags of ice. I tore down the system and will not do salt again until I move. exact same reason im back to freshwater(faulty heater), i'll try it again someday
  11. have the exact same one for about 6 months now, no problems. was skeptical (made in china) but still workin strong and for fifty bucks who cares if it only lasts a year or two. tuesdays are 15 or 20% off too
  12. thiers a vid on youtube, some dude stacked like a hundred pounds of rock in a 20 gal then stood on the pile and no prob. i have 3 50lb+ mountain rocks in my 90 for many years now with nothing under them with no issues.
  13. drilling a tank yourself is verry simple, check youtube and see how easy it is. even if the bottom is tempered you can still drill the top of the back. check mops.com for bits

    Air pumps

i use a pondmaster 100 style (the pump) you can run 1 to 100 air stones and and bleed off the excess. gives you a lot of flexability
  15. i have a seriously overstocked 90gal with africans and i am running a sea storm with my trickle and am yet to have any bad influx or spikes of any kind with the sea storm. i have used them for about ten years now and love them. imo, definitly worth the investment
  16. draining it is about the ONLY way. 3-5" koi in a 10,000 gal pond? good luck. talk about a needle in a haystack! who spends that kind of loot on fish just to walk away? more money than ANYTHING. good luck, hope ya get em all
  17. like any electronic, once it gets wet, its done. for the cost of a new heater vs replacing all your fish and the headache involved, i would spend the money and just get a new one, its good "piece of mind", check the equipment section in the buy & sell
  18. at 0:56 the bird chomped what looked like a goldhead or yellow comp. in the store thats a 100 dollar fish, thats 4 prime-rib dinner's at the keg, all in one bite! mmmmm,,, keg
  19. thats where i got the idea for this thread, was woundering how many "monster" tanks are in alberta, and was hoping to see some pics of some. what happened to that dude in edmonton that was building that monster tank in his basement? he was beefing up the concrete and was asking for advice, anyone know who that was or if the tank is done? how about paculady's 4500 gal? i searched archives but couldent find anything
  20. who in alberta has a true monster aquarium? at least 400gal or bigger? home-made or store bought? if you have any pics, put em up
  21. i read on mosterfishkeepers a thread where his 480gal? busted and destroyed his house. cant remember the specifics but it would be worth looking for, it had lots of details about his insurance and what they covered and what they did'nt.
  22. what about a product review thread? if you like a product say why, if you dont like one, also say why. obviously thier could be no product or company bashing, but just a simple this is why i do or dont like it.... it could be verry helpfull and informative to members looking to buy a product but are unsure as to what kind or brand would be best for them
  23. get yourself an overflow box, a pump and a 15 gal tank and build yourself a trickle filter. superior in every way. i gave up on canisters years ago, built my own sump and now all my tanks but one have trickles on them. each to thier own i guess...
  24. i believe it gets rid of all algae. it kills all single cell bacteria, wich i believe all algae is. if thier is an out of control algae problem a sterilizer is just a band-aid solution. thier great for preventing deseases like hole in head and finrot too. i'd use one for those reasons alone but i personally love algae, and so do my many plecos, but just not on the viewing glass
