  5. I think it is very important for it to be in light 24/7 and also be at a temp of 75 - 80 deg .. with agitation sometimes a lil baking soda.. juss a lil lil pinch lil lil HTH A couple times in beginning I thought it did not work.... Look closely for zig zaging and shells floating... so damn small! BTW I use a Spaghetti jar with a hole in top for airline

  7. If for some act of god the bolts dont hold please post pics it was ether bright blue or grey. and the bolts again, ohhh boy -roll- I forgot who the I argued with was, but he has no idea how strong the bolts are :bang1: -roll- If you like you can read this http://www.nutsandbolts.com/grade-8-bolts.html also, whoever it was ( i think RD) please do more research on grade 8 bolts I was looking for the specs on the bolts as I would like to incorperate this idea into a future project but I didn't find the specs for load bearing strength in the link . It just tells you how much better Gr 8 bolts are than normal bolts and what they are made of. I just want to see what the thread tension strength is so I know how many to add to my project stand.
  8. So are you putting the equivalent of the tank everytime? or are you putting in a fraction of the total amount needed? To me it sounds like if you use a python type method you are goin to expose your fish either way... as opposed to treating a bucket of water...
  9. [ Makes me feel like diving in my tank
  10. I use the grey intake off an old 405 on the end of my hose.
  11. RD wrote "I wrote the following over a year ago, but the info may help explain some of what takes place when using water treatments such as Seachem Prime. Having been converted to the "dark side" by several Python users I'm now adding my water conditioner for Chloramine to the tank as I refill with fresh water via a Python. Having said that, I wanted to make sure that my water conditioner (Seachem Prime) was indeed binding the ammonia once the chlorine & ammonia were split. Unfortunately the vast majority of ammonia test kits do NOT test for free ammonia, only 'total' ammonia so I was uncertain as to what was happening once the fresh water & Prime mixed in my tank. " What are the views on adding prime during refill or at the end of refill.... I do it at the end... I was always worried that the prime would bound to the chloramine but at the end I would have ammonia that was still present and not have enough prime left in the tank to take care of remaining chloramine.. if this makes any sense?
  12. What fish besides discus do you really need to lower pH, where the health is severely affected? I doubt most LFS adjust Ph levels in there tanks...So most common aquarium fish we buy must be fine with pH of Edmonton tap water. I think there are some non chemical ways to raise pH like Coral and shells.? and to lower pH like Peat in filter? is this not accurate..?
  13. Dayglow and afra cobue mbuna

  16. I see you can buy a lil brine shrimp hatchery... with a lil cup on top. I tried it in an ice cream pail... It says temp should be around 80 deg My temp is alot cooler... And none of my heaters I trust to put in a pail with only 1l of water. Please share with me your setup and formula for amount of water and shrimp. thanx
  17. Strange where the line is where certain animals exist and then they don't... Seems like it is between edmonton and red deer and then between calgary and red deer etc etc Almost like a barrier.. and you would think there would not be that much climatic difference
  18. I was under the understanding goldfish are not of the tropical variety that like such warm temperatures... Might be a good idea to bring fish that are still alive back to fish store Or at very least buy some stability...to try and keep them alive There is plenty to read about new tank setups on this forum and many other websites... Might be a good read to save you some wasted $'s
  19. I see there are some on your group order list Leopard bush fish
  20. I have found that to big of a water change when your tank has been in bad shape for awhile is not always a good thing.. Of course if it is a last resort and all fish are dying , you have no choice.. But I like to do smaller more frequent water changes as not to shock the fish.. With extreme water paremeter changes..I have heard they get acustomed to high nitrate and nitrite levels and a quick reduction in not so good Just my opinion
  21. do you keep old fish water to water the plants?
  22. What is the chance of electric yellows and dayglows cross breeding? Do common plecos eat fry? sometimes? anytime?maybe? not at all?
