  1. I'm looking forward to seeing this project develop! This should keep you busy but will be worth the effort!
  2. If you really think it is wasting disease, I suggest taking one of the most seriously affected to a reliable vet and have it necropsied to find out for sure. At the same time they would probably be able to tell if the problem is worms. At least you would know if you are at risk for something contagious to humans.
  3. You would have to watch and see what's happening in your tank. There is a fair chance that the one causing the damage (if that is indeed what it is) isn't injured. Others that have possibly been culprits in my tank are my Otocinclus and YoYo Loaches! The injuries would still need to be watched for infection.
  4. I noticed that the Opaline Gourami pictured is a male. Is there territorial issues going on? Could the damage be from one fish ramming another? The red spots are actually behind where the vent is. The vent is not far from the head actually, just in front of the ventral fin. Just a thought.
  5. They look like a Calla lily to me.
  6. I agree. My 90 wasn't big enough for a pair of 7" Severums.
  7. What are you planning to do come fall? Bring them indoors?
  8. :welcome: If no one here has the shrimp that you are interested in, keep an eye on http://www.canadianaquariumconnection.com/ClassAuction/ Often there are postings for shrimp in Canada and are willing to ship. No hassle about crossing the border! April's Aquarium - http://www.petsbeautiful.com/aquarium/index.php also has great selection! I hope this helps.
  9. Good luck in the competition fishclubgirl! We'll be rooting for you! Have fun!
  10. I had a recent experience with Fluval 404 that after 5+ years started leaking out of the motor housing. When I took it apart the impeller cover hadn't seated properly. Maybe something to check.
  11. Very nice photos!
  12. Canadian Tire had water lilies, reeds, Water lettuce and a few others in Red Deer yesterday.
  13. Welcome to AA! Tell us what you have, please, don't keep us in suspense!
  14. Hello - What's the story behind your name anglophobe? It doesn't sound very friendly to me.
  15. Thanks for the reminder about Old Tank Syndrome. I have a large Anubias barteri to cut back that has outgrown it's space. I'll pay more attention to the substrate around it when I'm working with it. Thanks again for the heads up! Sorry for your losses Darkangel.
  16. I have coarse sand in my brackish tank as my Dragon Goby loves to send sand flying and rearrange his tank. For that tank, I have the end of the python draining into a bucket sitting in a bathtub to collect any sand sucked up.
  17. I have posted this site before but I think it is a good one. See the part on Diagnosis by Poop. http://weloveteaching.com/puregold/disease.../technique.html I have heard of using peas for constipation but I don't think that is the problem, now.
  18. Well done! That is good to hear!
  19. Good turnout last night. I enjoyed meeting everyone and look forward to getting to know them. I am hoping the meeting will rotate through the different members of the group and get to see what everyone has. I look forward to seeing your tanks again Shauq1 and yours 2manytanks. I am always willing to show my tanks, as well! :welcome:
  20. I am not an advocate of Melafix. I know some people swear by it. If possible use a hospital tank and one of the broad spectrum antibiotics, off hand I couldn't say which I would use. According to Manual of Fish Health, slowly increase the temperature ~5 C (9 F), dose the tank with antibacterial remedy and/or aquarium salt. May help, but many cases fail to improve. Good Luck and hope it helps.
  21. is there anything we can do? for #1 or #2? If not, we must put him down, you are right........the other person who replied, either he gets better fast or we have to end his misery!! Robin You haven't said if he is eating. Swim bladder disorders have a variety of causes, so treatment varies. One book I have mentions air-gulping when eating - treat by soaking food so it sinks. Also mentions infection - antibiotics. Constipation - 1 tsp Epsom salts to 5 gal water in hospital tank, starve 3-5 days until resumes normal behaviour, feed live or freeze dried for 1 week, return to normal tank. There are more possible causes. From the Manual of Fish Health "If the affected fish seems very distressed or is unwilling or unable to feed then it might be kinder to have it put down." I hope this helps.
  22. HI Robin, Goldfish can live ~10 years. So it's probably not old age. Is he able to go down and stay down under water or just pops back up? Is he eating/pooping? Off hand,my guesses would be #1 - swim bladder infection, #2 - possibly constipation.
  23. Thanks Sharuq 1, I am interested in going, too.
