  1. Here is the top down picture you wanted. Enjoy and in the right light Nakama is actually yellow not orange. Thanks Lisa
  2. That sounds like a crazy weekend. Thank goodness that you weren't away for the weekend. I hope the carpet is okay. I can lend you my dirt devil carpet cleaner unless it's beyond repair. Don't forget that damage might be covered by house insurance. Good luck Lisa
  3. Thanks everyone . i've allready tried to remove the excess gunk but i'll try again after i get the noise problem fixed. I'm removeing my plants as with the introduction of Nakama Kuchi has become an avid plant destroyer. Hopefully this might help too. Thanks L
  4. Thanks i think he has a cute mug too and that is why i picked him over the others. I'll try for an above picture but i didn't pick them for that angle of their colouring. I definately need to re measure my koi and update my blurb. They are now in a 40 gallon tank and yes i'm perfectly aware of how huge they will be in future. I'm hopeing to build a pond in my house here in the distant future. For now they are enjoying their currently oversized tank. Lisa
  5. I need to figure out what to do to my new filter so that i still have all the wonderfull bacteria but not reduce the flow down to almost a trickle in a week due to too much gunk. Also it's makeing more noise than my old fridge or any of my air pumps and it's only a little over a week old. Is this a common problem with this unit or will replaceing it usually solve the problem. One last thing, if i replace the unit how do i do it without loosing :chair: all my bacteria i have built up in the filter sponges. Thanks Lisa

I'd personally tell them why you won't buy without the price drop and maybe they might reconsider if you give them a reasonable offer and maybe some comparisons to a new setup as well. It's worked for me in the past. Good luck L
  7. What part of Ontario are you from I have been very disappointed with the stores in my travels out there. I have been to store in London, Sarina, Kingston and all over the GTA. I know that construction companies are struggling to get good workers here in edmonton and i'm sure that that is what is holding Big Al's up in calgary If you really want it to open sooner i would call the construction company and say you want to help out doing whatever you can. allot of time is taken up by cleaning up after tradespeople. You could also call Big Al's and let them know you wouldn't mind helping set up the store for an in store credit or something. It'll get things going faster. About Local here vs. Local there it could be a case where you have yet to get to know the stores and employees here as well as you knew the ones there. If you are not happy with the sizes of the local store selection then you need to keep in mind that the population in ontario can support much larger stores and varieties within them. Hope you find a good store you grow to like. Good luck and enjoy the Stampede down there i hear it's fun and stampedeish. Lisa
  8. A small mirror on a stick or placed in such a way so you can see??? Just an idea that i've used before. and congrats on the babies. L
  9. First things first in my newbe opinion one thing i do know is Quarentine immediately. I wish i could help with diagnosis but i have no clue. I'd try melafix and it might be an internal infection. I know you can buy anti bacterial and anti fungal food so try that too. Like i said before i'm new to fish but i've been reading and listening and as far as i know you can try these things i've recommended without causeing more harm. Good luck. Lisa
  10. Interesting design. Lots of hidey holes and the perfect sized hidey holes for your fish. the background is interesting too but i don't think it goes well with the black sand and white bricks you have now. Hmm you could always paint the background Post picks with the algae growth it will probably make it look lots better and less harsh. Good luck. Enjoy it and forget what anyone else says as long as you like it that's all that matters since you have to live with it. Have a great weekend L
  11. Thanks for the great info. It makes sense since soap is supposed to make water thinner and anything else easier to clean I guess that includes mucus. Thanks so much Lisa
  12. I need to know what it is in soap that can hurt my fish so i can avoid using soap with that ingredient or decrease my use of soap for washing hands durring tank maintenance. I was told that i shouldn't use it period point blank but would soap without phosphates be okay?? Thanks so much everyone L :boxed:
  13. I bought my first Koi from Petsmart and i must say it was a little touch and go, I've been visiting Petsmart followed by Aquagiant the last couple of months and it was rare for me to find sick fish in the PS Koi tank. Until recently. I'm sure they get their koi from the same place and this last batch seem to be doing not so good. If you ever buy any fish from any LFS that doesn't quarantine all fish before selling them then your gambling with the lives of all your fish by not keeping the fish quarantined for an adaquite time. For such a small fish a small tank with a salt and heat treatment for a week will kill almost anything a koi can get. Research before useing this treatment because if you don't do it right you can easily kill a cold water fish like a Koi. I just bought a koi from Aquagiant They do a really good job keeping the fish healthy and i have yet to see a sick/dead or even lethargic koi in their tanks. It's five bucks more than Petsmart but worth every penny. Petsmart is a hit and miss for healthy fish i've had two die on me and the fist one i bought is doing wonderfully. Good luck. L
  14. I just picked up a New Koi. A little guy like Kuchi but he's yellow metallic and black. I've named him Nakama which means Buddy in Japanese. He's in Quarintine right now and i can't wait to introduce him to Kuchi. Problem though he's not eating. I have food in the tank and he hasn't even approached it and i put a slice of orange and not even a nibble. Is this normal?? when should i really start to worry? HAPPY CANADA DAY :ml: :ml: :ml: Lisa :ml: :ml: :ml: :ml: :ml:
  15. I used frozen tank water and let it melt in the tank about 200ml of frozen water cooled my 30gal down three degrees. From everything i've read it's okay to lower or raise the tank temp a few degrees at a time so as long as you figure out how much water you need to freeze to get the temp down a bit. Air also brings the temp of the tank to the room temp allot faster than normal. I'd try the ice and monitor the temp you might need lots of you have a big tank i'd suggest ice creme pails half full of ice and then add more tank water to cool it down. It's better than water changes because there is no new water and the water added is colder so you shouldn't have to change as much. I hope this might help L
  16. I picked up a fish tank that had the background and it was attatched to the tank with canola oil. It worked wonderfully. you could try that.
  17. Try information about velvet Nope definitely not velvet Thanks anyway but velvet is gold or rust coloured film and what i'm seeing is shiny spots that are highly reflective. It's a koi and i've never read anything suggesting koi can actually get velvet. My koi has some white metallic scales on his sides so it may be new scales maybe not. I would like to know just in case it is itch if i need to treat it or not. Thanks anyway L :ml:
  18. I thought i might have had ich but i have not seen it described anywhere as shiny or metallicish. If it isn't i'm thinking it might just be new scale growth. Thanks Lisa -ham-
  19. I have no idea if it's harmful or not but you can always try and vaccume it out with a gravel vac(siphon) if your worried :smokey: Hope this helps L
  20. I wouldn't know how to search for it in a search feature but i know that there are pinned topics that should be easy to locate and navigate to find good info on ich. or you could always ask. Hope that might help Lisa
  21. I just had a brand new heater that i wasn't using so i decided to use it to heat up my buckets of water to tank temp to not shock my fish. I noticed that there was water vapor whenever i turned it on one day. I pulled the electrical components out of the glass tube and used twisted toilet paper to squeeze the moisture out of the cotton like fiber in the bottom of the glass. I've put it back together and it's now perfectly fine and runs with no errors. It's also an elite and hangs off the edge of the tank. As long as there isn't any rust you should be fine drying it out like i described. It's really easy to take apart. Good luck Lisa :ml:
  22. I know there is a very nice ornament sitting in a pet store that i would love for my tank but it specifically states on the tag that they have something added to it that is good for reptiles but warns that it's not for aquarium use. If you still have the labels i would google the manufacturer and see what it says there. I wish i could help more but i'm no expert yet. I hope this info might help. SMILE Lisa -ham-
  23. I'm by no means an expert but here is what i know for sure. Disolved oxygen is very high near the surface(20% i think?? or less) so if you have bottom dwellers you should think of that when deciding. If you have lots of circulation i don't know for sure if it helps allot or not but i do know that if it agitates the surface of the water it helps add more oxygen. Check to see if your fish requires allot of oxygen or not. Me personally i found this lovely ornament that uses the water bubbles to make it look like i have a waterfall and another that uses the air to raise and lower a drawbridge on another ornament. Even if i didn't need it i would still have one because if it's done right IMHOP it's a nice thing to see in a tank. Have a great weekend Lisa -ham-
