  1. The Mailman... shhhhh, don't tell anyone...
  2. WHAHOOO, I have never seen stingray pup's before!!! hehe way cool. Lana
  3. I have on my 50gal a Fluval 205, AC70 and 1 sponge filter. I am hoping to obtain an AC 110 for my 120 gal, and I already have the canester filter and sponge filter for it, Also will be buying a power head for it too. I think I would like one power head at each end so that the filtration will have a bet chance of getting it all... either that or I will get it all as it is pushed to the middle...haha... I was once told that you can never have to much filtration. Also multiple filtration is great for when you need to clean out the filters, you can clean one leave one, then a couple weeks later clean the other one, that way your tank wont ever have to cycle again... never clean them both at the same time... 4. I read somewhere online, don't recall where that you can give boiled egg yolk, for the fry you would squish it add some water then put it in the tank, the adults would love it too. It is a good source of protein for them, crushed flakes works well and so does the baby brine shrimp. You can hatch them out yourself, Natures corner carries them. Good luck and Congrats! Lana
  5. I have not put my guppies in breeders boxes, and we manage to keep some of the fry alive. So long as you have good hiding places they will do fine, some will be lunch, but trust me you don't want them all anyway or you will soon be over run with them, doesn't take long. by the way how was the trip back, did the girls sleep all the way home? Lana
  6. Well that looks very nice indeed!!! Congrats on finally getting r done! Now I know who all I can call, for idea's and help with setting up a tank...hehe... Send pix of it when it is in action, can not wait... again congrats! Lana
  7. I have Java Fern, African Fern, Crypt and Anubias Nana (I think it is called) and so far they have been leaving them alone, but I am not a green thumb by no means and my plants seem to show it too. My Blue moorii love to try and hide in the African Fern, but it is not bushy at all, so you can easily see them...haha... when I first put the plants in there they would taste it then realize they were not that yummy, and have not bothered with them since. I am unsure who to recommend for plants up here I would highly recommend Natures Corner, their plants are awesome and in fantastic shape too. I have fake plants too... Lana
  8. With Prime you can treat the new water with it before you even add it to the tank. For example my husband always brings me 5gal jugs of water, I had the prime right to this jug, will let it sit a minimum of 20 minutes, but I try to let it set over night to do it's thing. Then when I add the new water, all the chloramines, chlorine etc are nuetralized before mixing the old and new water together... Lana
  9. :welcome: to AA, I do not own salt water fish, so can not help you. But there are lots of experienced good people here that will help you out. Lana
  10. :welcome: to AA!!! I think you will enjoy your time on the board, lots of knowledgable people regarding plants and discus! I myself know nothing...haha... seriously Lana
  11. :welcome: To Alberta Aquatica (AA). You will meet a lot of people from the Edmonton area on this board. I myself am approx 1 hour NE of the city, close to Redwater. I am new to the aquarist world, but there are a lot of extremely knowledgeable people on the board. Gillian of Nature's corner has some very nice and healthy plants... Not sure if you have been to Natures corner, it is a very nice little store, with tons of gift ideas even for the non-fishy person on your list. They have some very nice freshwater fish too... They are on the south side, not sure where you are located. Lana
  12. I have been watching both places and even put my own ad on kijiji too... Any help is greatly appreciated. Lana
  13. I do have to say though, when we send our Pork, beef etc to slaughter, they don't suffer as long as that duckling did. Other wise the slaughter houses up here would be closed too. Now with that said I have seen video's of Mexican slaughter now that is cruel! The only time I have heard of animals suffering is when hunting season starts, as sometimes the shot is taken from to far away, or the sharp shooter is not so sharp, then the animal jets, and sir sharp shooter has to track it... Lana
  14. Thank you Harold, I am going to be purchasing six, that way once they are older I can sell the extra males off... I hope... Same with the dolphins, I am sure with that number one male is good enough and if I end up with three females that would be good too. I am trying to find a bigger tank, in my price range, I don't want to spend an arm and a leg, because I want to be able to get them a huge custom tank in about two years... Makes it hard to start saving if I spend it all in one place... I really need to get a hold of dayrude... Lana
  15. I have decided against the 90 gal, I am looking for a 6' 180 gal. Dayrude, sent me a message about his uncles, but I can not get a hold of him for the life of me, not sure if he is on Holidays now or not... Lana
  16. :welcome: To AA Roy! The best place to buy cichlids is right here! The prices are awesome and the quality second to non! That is my opinion any way... I have been to a couple of the pet store's and most of the fish/aquarium store's seem to specialize in salt water. I have not been to big Al's though, but have heard some good things about it. The plants at Nature's corner are AWESOME!!! Welcome to Alberta too... You missed the heat wave.... you lucky guy you.... Lana
  17. :welcome: to Alberta Aquatica (AA). What kind of cichlids do you have, you will have to list them under livestock for sale, and it is always best if you can include pictures. I have found the easiest way to upload photos is to create an album, if you make them around 27kb you can add a couple, or if you have a photobucket account you can also add them that way too. Sounds like you may need to go shopping in the Equipment area for a new tank...hehe Again welcome, I look forward to your posts. Lana
  18. Great photos! Love the coloration you were able to capture too. Lana
  19. I know I am boiling and I am not even in water!!! This is to stink'n hot!!! Lana
  20. I figured I would add a couple photos of my tank, and a few residents and one male guppy. This is my male guppy. This is one of my Burundi Frontosa This is feeding time... This is the Dolphin we just obtained from Brad, Thank you so much BRAD!!! Lana
  21. Welcome to the group! I just became a fishaholic and this group has been wonderful! You will really enjoy the people on this list. Lana
  22. I am actually going to take the two dolphins out of the other tank, the two fronts can stay in there as I don't want to mix species of front's. I have three dolphins coming from Spensors and two from Lisa, so that would be 7 dolphins, and then the Fronts which I have not purchased. I just want to be sure I am good for a minimum of two years. Before I go ahead a buy... Lana
  23. How long can approx. 6 Front's and 6 Blue Dolphins stay in a 90 gal tank, dimensions are: 48 1/2" x 18 1/2" x 25 3/8", The front's i currently have as well as the dolphins are all under 2.5" I just want to know before I put the money into this, if I should or not... currently there is no cannister filter for this unit only two that hang over the side... Lana
  24. Yes, that has been proven. Usually children that have the tendancy to be cruel to animals are the one's that are cause for concern. I am betting the person who created this video was one such person. They thrive on hurting people you can tell due to the comments he has received yet he has not felt it necessary to remove the video. This person is just a waste of skin in my books...ugh Lana
  25. I didn't either... soon as I realized the baby was still alive I closed it... Lana
