I use a piece of filter floss about 3x3 inches. I stick my finger in the side of the floss to make a hole and the slide it on the pick up tube. These can be just tossed away and you don't have to clean them. Works great.

You can also add some Septo Bac. It will help to speed it up. But things should start happening soon. Could take 30 days or more.

Neutralizer works great like Sue say's. -
I always siphoned the poop in the tank first with a siphon. Also blew the hose out after filling the tank.
-
I think the pump/ the hose is by far the easiest and fastest way to do water changes.

I do the same as Jason.

Yes you should do that each time you clean the filters. The round cap just unscrews with a 1/4 turn. Pull the impeller out, it is magnetic. Clean the impeller and inside where it goes.

If you have never tried to polish scratches out of Acrylic I would think twice. Without the right polishing compounds and buffing pads it is very difficult. I am a " old " automotive painter and have polished a lot Acrylic paint and know how much work it takes. To me , I don't think that I would buy one and I have the polishing equipment at home. Just another opinion.

I use a 3x3 piece of filter floss on my intakes as a throw away pre- filter . Just insert your finger into the side of the floss to create a hole and slip it on the pickup tube. Works great and no more cleaning pre-filter's .
