  1. Some will take them for a credit. Makes the tanks lighter and helps keep the wallet heavy.
  2. You have to loyal dogs there. Very nice and proud looking they are.
  3. it was 20 a bag when I bought some about 2 years ago. Little more than playsand but waaaay more choices in color.
  4. 3M used to sell some thing called colorquartz, and its inert. I dont know if they still sell it tho. Could check some countertop companies as thats what it is used for.
  5. Welcome to the club. There is free coffee and leaflets at the back. Welcome to AA.
  6. Thats a pretty nice tank Jay. I always liked the look of the rocks and the drift wood like that. Are you going to be using CO2?
  7. Those are nice pictures. What type of geo is that?
  8. I did a 50% water change and ammonia is at 5ppm, nitrites at .25ppm and nitrates are 0
  9. Ya that might sound like a great plan. Test kit is not that old but was outside when it started to get colder.
  10. Do you have any julidochromis and any types of tang shellies?
  11. no just the once to bring it to 5ppm as i have always done. I just cant understand why they would be going up.
  12. So I started a 50 gallon tank. Boiled the rocks and sand as they were sitting for some time. Also disinfected the filter and heater with a small amount of vinegar as they were sitting as well. after setting it up and checking for leaks and all that good stuff I added some bacteria from a cycled tank and ammonia to 5ppm. Now its been about just over a week and the ammonia levels have risen to past the chart, I would say to about 10ppm. The nitrites and nitrates are both reading 5ppm. I also started seachems stability starting sunday with prime to knock some of the ammonia down. Any ideas on whats going on there. My only concern is the rising ammonia levels. Is it bad for the bacteria for them to be that high?
  13. Hey welcome to the board and back into the hobby. Good addictions never die. Cheers.
  14. Just wondering if any one in Red Deer was keeping any Africans, more specifiably, Tanganyikans.
  15. Awesome. I guess I should say that the tank is a 50g breeder as well.
  16. Thanks for the warm welcome. I am looking to set up an African shell dweller tank. Some brichardi, maybe brevis and some smaller jullies perhaps. As for the one tank, I barely talked the boss into letting me set up the one. Unless I want to be homeless with my fish I think I will keep it at that for now.
  17. I bought some argonite sand from petland and mixed it with playsand from home depot. The argonite made the water cloudy but it lightened up the color of the playsand quite a bit. Great for africans.
  18. I bought mine from dolorama and micheals. I didnt have any troubles with coatings, but I also boiled them for quite awhile.
  19. Hi everybody, I am new to this forum but not new to fish keeping. I was out of fish keeping for a bit and am now setting up a tank. So hello every one and its good to be here. Cheers.
