Hello and welcome to AA. I believe another member here has a slider in a large tank as well, jvision. I'm sure he'll be around to say hello as well.

Can use aluminum foil and a very light mist of spray adhesive. -
It's basically how it is...another is mts (not the snail) multiple tank syndrome.

Show them a bottle of tartar sauce, that should keep them in check.

Purigen does wonders however I don't think it is needed in this type of setup, most people don't need that.

4" is good then...it's misleading by the picture. On your specs the light for a 180 I'd say is lite...in a few weeks (just might) need to be increased. For the rocks collected in nature I always recommend the 'ol acid test.

If you want to put styrofoam within a tank make darn sure it will stay put as it is basically plastic and air. If your looking for a nice flat rock similar to the above I've got that and for a good price.

Looks nice as well. Thin substrate layer tho imo for plants.

Wait....just wait. The 'cycle' takes time for the nitrifying bacteria count to rise to appropriate levels for the tank as well as ammonia and nitrite to become zero. Seed the tank with the old material which you did and just wait. the numbers you want are zero, zero and then a reading. When the first two are zero your tank is cycled. (could be bad test kits as well)

Yes, there are many good ways to build a reef wall. Too many people think that it must be solid rock, the fish don't care and live rock is live rock. The two system while have glaring differences are actually very similar, more so than people think.
