    Hello

:welcome: Glad to have you step aboard. You'll soon have more tanks Post pics, ppl here love them.
  3. The 1 bag was enough to give a thin 1 inch layer for my 72gal. I may yet go get another bag. I love the color! It reflects my kepas harwood floor in the livingroom.
  4. To purchase , Aquagiant. They sell it by the pound 2.49/lb. Extra large pieces may run up to 20.00 but the same pieces at lfs would be 80.00+. Still need to wash and soak them. Nice thing is, wood is dry so less weight.
  5. Chocolate cichlid just like mine. They also call it emerald cichlid.
  6. Go to Manis abrasives not too far from your place. I picked up #16 garnet and it looks really nice. Dark red and shines like gems. They have all the silcas there too.
  7. This is simply a means of identifying them. There are so many different ones. A lot of them have names, but it makes it easier to use the number. My cherished plecos are L260 Queen Arabesque .
  8. That's what I said ! lol I hope so anyway, it's the be all and end all of caring for these critters
  9. This is a pic of one of my auratus. Would you say she's holding?

  12. I think spcy is having trouble getting the pics to load, too large probably. Anybody got advice on how to resize her pics? I noticed sammy has some large pics up......do the size restrictions increase with little yellow fishys on the left side?
  13. I support live food feeding in the same way I support breast feeding our infants. It's simply the best way. I mostly feed pellet food to my fish but do also supply newly hatched brine shrimp and young convict fry. I've always been amazed as to "dog people" or "cat people" will go out of their way to find a lactating mother (dog/cat) to save their new babies(pups/kittens) when their animal is unable to care for the young. Yet when it comes to humans they view the same natural process as "disgusting". I prefer my meat charbroiled as to raw, but I've yet to see BBQs underwater. My fish absolutly love their raw treats.

  15. Check out Greg's distributors, they have a lot of industrial stuff.
  16. AARRRGGGG!!! Sorry it wasn't osting ...wasn't posting...then posted everything lol
  17. Don't rule out harwood itself. I have Kempas HW in my living room where the 72g is. I do spill alot with WCs. I put out towels as well, then just wipe up . The price on HW has come down a lot, at the Windsor Plywood discount store it was like 1.99 a square foot, and lots of sellection. It's all prefinnished too. We used a electric mitre saw, rented a neumatic nailer/stappler and compressor, and used a jigsaw. With 3 of us, it took less than a day to put in livingroom, dinningroom and 4 steps. Looks so nice too. Had it for a year now with tons of spillage and looks like new.
  18. I dunno, I have 4 large sections that are poofy green and very nice and 1 that is losing leaves . I've got the seachem three in there (flourish/excel/iron). The ones that are doing best are right under the lights so I would guess the light level is key.
  19. I love it . I hooked mine behind a rock and let it sway in the tank. As it grows I break off a piece and hook it behind the driftwood ect. Looks very nice.
  20. Please clarify "leos"? Wanted to google it to see what's all the excitement is about

    Hello

:welcome:  Great to have you onboard.
  22. Great, thank you, looked at the picks, it seems obvious enough....but now to get them to sit still long enough to observe.....I may have fry in my near future
  23. Now that I am the proud caregiver to this group of auratus, I've done more reading about them . They often refer to the female as "holding". I understand that this mouthbrooder is holding eggs or fry. How can I tell? What does it look like? How long do they "hold"? OOOOOOOOOOOOO this is so much fun :smokey: -ham-
