  1. And now would be a good time to lock thread. Gonna be a war soon.
  2. Musta been a not so good auction there as no updates on what was Deal of day Fish of day duckweed there? Guess Edmonton has the better auction!!! Shots fired!!!
  3. Still doesn't change my opinion on bottles of useless bacteria. As bacteria requires oxygen to survive and i am sure oxygen can not go through a sealed plastic bottle thus killing the bacteria as bottle sits on a shelf.
  4. Ya used ammonia for my first tank to cycle it then rest i just stole some media out of filters. Once 1 tank is cycled the new additions are easy peasy. All my tanks are understocked so bioload is low for most part. Patience is key in this hobby.
  5. Could be a mini cycle. Only way i know to insta cycle is to use some media from other tanks (pot scrubbers. Ceramic rings. Sponges) imo water just wouldn't cut it and all the magic bs bacteria in the bottle is just that bs.. just my 2. Also MTS eventually gets most of us...be glad your MTS is smaller sized tanks... 180 150 140 90 40B 36BF 20... equals 1 day a week in mantience usually a sat or sun.
  6. Found bulbs at hydro-lite on fort road $10each.
  7. Trying this dwc thing with few lettuce pods. Raft is 16"x18" with 9 1.25" pvc couplers with Rockwool as media looking for lighting now. Have a 4 bulb t5ho fixture just sitting around. Currently has 10000k bulbs in it. looking to put some 6400k sunblasters in it. Looking for cheapest place for bulbs. Also thinking only need 1 or 2 for my use
  8. Try a dollar store also. Found some daylight plus 6500k there today for $3 each. 23w 1600lumens. Equivalent too an 100w bulb. At least what it states.Gonna try these on my aquaponic project. If no work i will breakdown and buy a sunblaster setup.
  9. Fx6 is the new fx5. Both rated for 400gal+ tanks. I run 1 of mine on the 150 for 1oscar in tank. Oscar is by far one of messiest fish I've ever owned.
  10. Few questions 1. What is your stocking atm? 2. Fx6 will have greater flow for sure but do you need it? Would a power jet be just as efficient for extra flow? (Dead spots in tank) I personally love my FX5 I got on my 150 and 180. Both a bit overkill for stocking in said tanks but maintenance every 6-9 months is fine by me.
  11. Wish my mbuna would eat duckweed. ..i toss so much away weekly.
  12. K1 is neutrally buoyant in water i think. Only reason i see as for buying brand name. I played a bit with moving sand filter in a sump. Only issue i had was keeping sand in one area away from the pump. Very good bio filter if you can get working.
  13. looking to do a nitrate soaking plant in my sump looking to take some egg crate light diffuser and take some styrofoam strips silicone to crate to allow floatage so looking for some suggestions for plants that can have roots fully emmersed in sump water. im thinking pothos as a front runner. or any other suggestion on how to make a nitrate plant sponge in a sump. cant do planted section in sump as there are mbuna fry/juvies in sump that will destroy plants any help would be appreciated
  14. seems like a lot of air bubbles in the silicone myself I would reseal the tank but that's just me I'm sure others will chime in with other advice of what to do or if it ok. My only concern would be if it does fail 180 gallons of water on any floor is never fun.
  15. Rainbow ric and geleen more of the experts on rainbows. They will chime in soon I'm sure. If look healthy still i think all should be ok but ill let our "experts" chime in
  16. Nice on probable good fry. Tank looks good too.
  17. Blue world is closed down now. That is where I got my 140gal tank with 110gal sump setup when they were closing shop up. Closed over a year ago.
  18. Always room for another tank. ...hence why i have 7 tanks going from a 20gallon to my 180gallon
  19. Ya that works. Thanks mattsbettas I'll check them out
  20. Jhemco, com takes me to some kind of healthcare benifit plans domain page.
  21. looking for an shatterproof heater for my oscar tank. doing a filter swap on few of my tanks and need an extra heater. guessing titanium will be best bet. any info be appreciated
  22. Feeders could add diseases to tank and fish. Always a risk with live foods. i guess the smelts could have a parasite too.. i lost a few Oscars due too feeders from LFS. I now breed guppies for live food as i know they are healthy for feed.
  23. Aquagiant 2 lids complete with hinges handle and back plastic $60. Done. had cut in 15 min
  24. If i can get glass cut for around 60-70. I would do it also.
  25. Ya i looked at joeys vids and green house stuff might work ..only concern will be if my growing oscar can push lid off. Already jumps up when i feed him at least 2" above tank rim to get food. Worried might become a concrete flipflopper if lid not secured.
