  1. Yes the Rams would be happier with the bigger footprint but as said before you can get all shapes and sizes for tanks. A standard 55 gallon is a very versitile tank and only 12 inches longer than the 33 gallon. If you have the extra length room why not go bigger. :shifty:
  2. I never leave Calgary without going to Riverfront. In my opinion they are the best place in Calgary for selection and their customer service in excellent.
  3. I would probably lean to the oto or apple snail for the smaller size. A small filter would be a good idea too.
  4. I said 2nd or 3rd too, I also like to hunt, fish, play hockey, and do things around the farm when I can find time!
  5. Thanks Kevin, that was very helpful. I'll follow the same advise given to you!
  6. I noticed last night in one of my tanks little white specs floating on the water surface that jump around the top of the water. Anyone know what they are and what I should do about them?
  7. Could someone be playing a practical joke on you??????
  8. Do zukes and cukes need to be blanched or cooked or just in the raw form?
  9. Thanks for everyones advice!
  10. I'm wondering what the best substrate is for planted tanks. I'de like to plant one of my larger tanks but the substrate is sand. Since I haven't kept plants before to a large extent I'm wondering if this will work or if another substrate is better?
  11. Your Venustus is doing much better. Fins are growing back and starting to show some good color. He'll be on his way home to you tomorrow morning!
  12. I've used river rock and slate I found locally in all my tanks. I like to boil it before putting it in my tanks but have never had a problem.
  13. I have been looking for nice wood suitable for my aquariums. Locally there is not alot of selection (maby 5 pieces in town). I'm not sure about wood that I would find along rivers in my area because I don't want to risk polluting the tanks or introducing disease. Am I able to use local wood or are there ways to order wood online? Any input would be nice!
  14. Patience. Find a spot, sit still, and wait. On our property we hunt and it's incredible to be so close to the animals. With blinds and tree stands you can hear the elk eating the grass. I've often thought I should have a camera with me. Also once had a coyote run along with us on the horses as if it were a dog. It was pretty neat.
  15. Well I just moved the last two batches of Venustus fry to a larger tank and counted as I went. I have 350 fry from two separate spawnings with the same male and female. That would be about 175 fry per batch. I'm shocked at the numbers. I think I'm going to have to intervene to limit any more babies
  16. Alright, I remember seeing it now. Thanks for the help!
  17. I did have a quick look in that department. Is it the same thing that is used in the overhead office lighting?
  18. I'm looking for something to line the bottom of a 90 gal tank under the substrate. I have heard some people mention some sort of crate available at Home Depot but couldn't find anything when I was there today. Does anyone know the name of the stuff or what department it's in or have another suggestion?
  19. I use Target Playsand in my 55's and it was great for me too. $5 or $6 a bag (Good Price).
  20. Thanks! Right now they're still pretty small but I hear they are fast growers. Once they get bigger I will post them.
  21. At this rate there is already lots of babies to go around.
  22. One month later and I just stripped another batch of venustus fry. Another 50 or so. They are busy exploring their new fry tank.
