fatpuffer
Do betta prefer more of a vertical space such as a bigger vase or more of lateral movement such as a longer narrower tank? Js
AriahJade
Do betta prefer more of a vertical space such as a bigger vase or more of lateral movement such as a longer narrower tank?Js personally i think they would prefer a longer space to swim as they do breath air. The more air space up top the better. I like to keep mine in shallow tanks when the water is not filtered.
fatpuffer
UPDATE: "Dijon" the plakat has been moved from the vase to a spacious 2.5 gallon tank (THANKS LILWOLFE!). Substrate is Flourite so it is still a bit hazy but using jvisions techniques (plate and slow pouring), it turned out better that I thought it would. A few water changes should clear it up nicely. Tank has no filtration but have java moss, some stem plants, some Vine type plant, java fern and floating plant...do not know the names of the plants...haha. The fish is adjusting well and the plants are pearling so it seems that they are getting enough light. Moss is still floating because of the bubbles from pearling. Js P.S. I usually do a 50 percent water change every other day...so he is well taken care off even in a small tank such as this. ALSO...Neil do you have NLS for betta? currently using the smallest ones...I think it is community one. Js
fatpuffer
What bottom feeder can I put in this new tank? ONly thing i can think of are ghost shrimps. Can a pygmy cory go in an unfiltered tank? Any ideas is greatly appreciated. Jonah
fatpuffer
Pix of the 2.5gallon (thx. lilwolfe!) Sorry for the terrible pix! Js P.S. Here is a small video clip: Suppose to be a 25 sec. clip but the program only allows me to do 13 secs. lilwolfe
hey, ... is that one of my snails in there too....lol!
RD.
ALSO...Neil do you have NLS for betta? currently using the smallest ones...I think it is community one. Community pellet is fine. Kathryn Stuart of Dee Mark Betta feeds all of her betta fish the 1mm TherA formula, but this species will do well on any of the various NLS formulas. fatpuffer
THANKS Neil! Lanaea: Yup...it is one of your snails...but it has not moved much. The plakat ignores it but, I have not seen it come out of its shell. Js
lilwolfe
well....you could always do the sniff test to make sure it's still....alive. If it isn't I could always get you another....but maybe not the same color.
fatpuffer
its alive but just wont come out and play! You think the daily 50 percent water change "annoys" the snail? Js
fatpuffer
Update pix: Js His fin is healing nicely (nipped by a platy!). Js Edited November 23, 2006 by fatpuffer
lilwolfe
the water changes shouldn't be....maybe the plakat just bugs the snail when you're not looking...lol!
fatpuffer
Maybe! I will leave him in there for now. I saw him take out his "tube" and now he is back in his house again...lol. Js
lilwolfe
maybe the snail is afraid .....or he could be a hermit at heart. who knows. lol.
